N/A I think I've reached a tipping point...

At 78 I am starting to reach a point where spring piston rifle are not going to work for me much longer. The HW97k is only a five shot rifle before I really struggle to cock it and I can feel the pain in my shoulder and elbow on the first cock. Even my little R7 starts hurting my shoulder and elbow after only 25 shots. I've decided to get rid of the HW97k but the R7 will stay as the grandson loves it. I also have an AirForce TalonSS but the ergonomics puts to much strain on my old neck so it must go. Guess I will be looking for another PCP.
i know it will feel backwards but can you cock it with the other arm / shoulder ? tune the 97 down to say 8 FPE ?

I've done some reading and looking and think either a Wildcat Compact or a Maverick Compact might make a good addition. I would really like to handle them to see how well the feel in the hand.
dont overlook a agt vixen, I have a standard and it’s very light weight and easy to carry. Daystate huntsman revere is another great choice.

Not worried about the money, just want a good shooter for hunting small game and doing some plinking with the grandsons.
this is my 3rd Wildcat. Love them.

It's way easier to cock a 97 than it is to put a full hunting load in a pumper that just barley makes the 97's power.

I'll take your word for it since I've neve cock a 97. However I wasn't talking about hunting I'm talking about target/plinking shooting 🎯 I'll shoot 15 yards 4 pumps or 25 yards with 5 pumps all day long. I never fully pump to its capacity :)

I plink at 75y Lol. It takes a hunting load to reach it.

nice! with a peep sight no less.
Those two hits actually turned out to be misses, because I couldn't hit it again, then shot a group about 2 1/2" left of center. Adjusting those peep sights are a real pain making small movements too.
Those hits made sense though because the sun was bright and to my right. I have allways shot into the sun with open sights which is why I modified that Sheridan years ago with a front sight hood, which is also why the front sight on it now is from a much older gun. I ruined the original. Lol

Yeah, I can hit a large pellet tin hanging in a tree fairly consistently at 55yards with my .20 cal off a front bag with a peep. as long as i have good light.

Teep, sorry for your issues. The 97 is a sweet gun for sure. I would highly recommend a HW 77 .25 cal. or even in .22 cal. The long barrel makes it easy to jack. And the .25 is so easy to load, you can put them in with your teeth. For plinking, there’s no gun that’s more of a blast, IMO. I’m lethal to Rocky to 30 yds.
I have both 77-97 in all cal. and my 77 .25 👍 I believe I shoot this rifle more than any other springer.
Another rifle I recently got but didn’t shoot much yet is a Walther LG55. So easy to break. It’s .177, but being a break barrel easy to load. 👍I have Arthritis, so I know the fun.
Good luck. Crow
