HW/Weihrauch I think this 1974 HW30 may need some attention...

I doubt this HW30 has ever been opened up. Cosmetically, outside, the gun is in good condition. Still accurate w/70's Weaver scope - needed no adjustments.
Perfekt trigger is 3.15lbs average. Some air tube galling from the linkage... Gun still averaged 534fps w/7.4gr pellet. Take a look at this piston/seal! I will probably go with a Vortek spring & seal. Lots of cleaning to do... Do the plastic linkage inserts still exist to keep the air tube from getting scratched?

Here's a pic of mine, very worn metal and some scratches, but I restored the stock.

A true classic, thanks for the pic.
Took me awhile to realize...I have a HW50 that resembles that 30. If I remember right it is a 1975 manufacturer date.

After cleaning up the piston, I’m thinking that the seal looks like a conversion kit… Did this gun come with a leather seal when new? Then I’m looking at seal conversions, and see some have a hole in the middle with an exposed screw, like in pics above, and others use a mounting puck under the seal that screws to the piston top. Which way to go…

Yes, that looks like the factory leather seal. Same as this 1977.

I'm a bit confused by your comment. The seal on the gun in your first pics is clearly leather, and probably the original (HW didn't start using plastic seals in their smaller models until around 1985). The dark goop all over the place is likely ancient moly grease - Air Rifle Headquarters was the importer in those days, and their idea of a "tune" was to cram a full tub of moly inside the gun!

I recently re-did an absolutely identical situation in an old ARH HW 30. Your seal looks in good shape, so you can just clean out the mess, give the seal a good soak in silicone or neatsfoot oil, apply some proper modern lubes, and it will be 100% better. I put a Maccari spring in mine as part of the work, too, and it is great.
