Tuning Ideas to Repair Stripped Out Treads in Vintage Crosman 101 Appreciated

Wadcutter,

Yes the threads were stripped away, I had a new nut and reversed threaded hoping to revive any old threads but no joy. This is where the challenge began.

As noted and indicated the late model guns do have an insert, however this old girl does not as she is a pre-war model. Knowing this I took the time to only create new threads in an area the extends 1 or 2 threads into the transfer port. This was done to assure I had the correct threads and alignment for the compression tube and air chamber on the tube side. Thus my fix is similar to what you describe. In addition, the initial test fit indicates all will work well and will seal up as if there was never a thread issue when tightened.

again thank you for the suggestions as I will use this information if I ever run across a late model with this type of issue.

I am very pleased to say my $100 straight logo Crosman 101 is back from the dead. After figuring out how to make a permanent fix for stripped out threads and installing a correct muzzle keeper pin and band, new air chamber, upgraded pump assembly and seal kit from Rick at Precision Pellet this old beauty is holding air and firing with authority once more.

I decided to leave the paint as is for now, but I did refinish the walnut stock and forearm with Tru Oil.

I have not done velocity tests yet, but tonight I found that it can punch holes through 3/4 inch sheet rock at 30+ yards. The nice surprise was finding out when cleaning the barrel was that it was one of the rifled Remington barrels made for Crosman all those years ago.

Thank you to everyone for thier input, thoughts, suggestions and information, this project was a challenge, but I am glad I went through the process.
