If you could have any PCP FT gun, what would it be?

I'm looking into getting a FT gun. Current collection as follows:
.30 - Silver FX Impact w/ Athlon Argos BTR 6-24x50mm Mil, Side Shot large capacity magazines.
.25 - FX Streamline w/ Athlon Argos BTR 6-24x50mm Mil
.22 - AA S510 Carbine w/ Athlon Argos BTR 6-24x50mm Mil, Huma Regulator, Cross Drilled Pot, Lightened Hammer
.177 - Artemis PP700S-A w/ Vortex Venom Red Dot, Tuned, LDC
As you can see, I like the good ones, but they are all too powerful for FT (except for the little pistol and it's meh.) There's a match nearby at the end of Oct and though I've been offered a loaner, I'd like to have my own that I'm familiar with.

So, in your humble opinion, what should I look for? .177 for sure, Daystate? yet another FX? RAW/WAR? or cheap chinese (SPA?) Honestly, my budget is cheap chinese, but I'd prefer to have a 'nice' one.

Glass would probably be an Athlon Helios.

I'd suggest using your .22 S510 for your first competition and try out the rifles of some of the other competitors to see what fits you best. Definitely go for a .177 when you do decide. I prefer to shoot my Brocock Contour when shooting field target (informally...I've never competed in a real competition) because it is so light and points and aims so well. I have found while practicing recently, that I shoot my heavier Daystate MK4is Just as well or even better from the standing position though. Good field target shooters seem to me to be "good shooters" who are experienced at shooting in a variety of conditions. Most of my misses are because I misjudge the wind. I'd miss the shots with any rifle.

a raw or Thomas if u go with ither one you will never go rong.
did you ever hear of the thimble and indexing the barrel?
if so do you know what it does.?
I think if you get a Thomas or raw with thimble you will never look back

I have an aas510. 22 I also have a daysate airwolf.177 and a brocock contour22.
I have a raw 177 with both polygonal and lw barrels at 20 foot pounds.

the raw bm500 with thimble beats them all.

the rest is up to you

RAW for sure. I use an HM1000 originally built for 12 fpe. I boosted it up to 14 fpe and it does really fine with 8.44 gr AA pellets. Whatever gun you choose, keep it under 20 fpe. If your budget is limited, you can get by with a Marauder. As far as scope is concerned, you need one that will range accurately, especially between 40 and 55 yards. That eliminates many. I don't know how good the Athlon is, but you can test it yourself by setting up some targets at those ranges and see if you can tell the difference between 44 and 48 yards, for instance. Accurate ranging is crucial. The ones that I know for sure that work well are the Hawke Sidewinder 30, Sightron SIII, Bushnells, Millet TRS 4-16X50, Optisan Viper, and such. Check the match score results on some of the forums and see what kind of equipment the shooters are using.

I could get a barrel and probe for the Impact and retune, but doubt I would. Everything I've read it's so darn fussy, I hate to mess with it when it shooting so good now.

My S510 is shooting at 30fpe and I don't think I could get a .22 down below 20fpe. Not a bad idea though, have to think on this one. I hadn't considered it. Some light pellets and a lighter tune and turn the reg down a little. It's possible.

The PP700 is a pistol. It's not very accurate. It's in the shop being worked on now for regulator problems (given up on the stock reg and putting a huma in it) and an overall leak. He is having trouble with it. Currently it's right in Irma's path so who knows what it's status will become. IF it makes it back to me, I'd certainly enter it in the pistol competition (assuming there is such a thing in FT - I'm wholly ignorant about FT.)

The Argos is a fine piece of glass. Though the markings on the focus ring do not match with what I've measured to the target. Easily fixed with one of the big focus wheels and some calibration though.

Have to think about tuning the S510 down...this might be the right answer for my budget, really don't have the coin for another high end gun and glass right this moment and really do need to get a CF tank for the thirsty Impact (the one I'm looking at is $800+.)

What pellets should I get to experiment with in .22 for sub 20fpe?

My 2 cents from across the pond - WFTF comps in USA at 12 ft/lb , in no particular order...all in .177 / 4.5mm

FT gun = Target Gun

1. RAW TM1000 (Lothar Walther barrel) - already FT specced

2. Air Arms HFT 500 (Lothar Walther barrel) ; if you then get hooked on FT, you can get the alu stock Aeron upgrade later....there is a USA reseller but dont know the name

...both are used in Bench Rest 50meters - at the worlds and clubs world wide... lazer precision trajectory using 4.5mm JSB pellets...

I'm digging the AA stock. I already have the sporter(og) stock in walnut, and an ultimate sporter stock for my S500. That aluminum chassis would look good under it. You wouldn't happen to have a link to the brtitish retailer or maker so I can find the american retailers info.

As for a FT gun, what is your budget for gun and scope, maybe bipods if you go hunter class, harness and jacket for open or wftf? This can help narrow down your choices. Of course if Budget isn't a concern then certainly RAW and Thomas, even Steyr and Anshutz are good choices. March or Khales for a scope. Kurt Thune for a custom FT shooting jacket. If you like a larger bumbag then get it from RAW. I'm not sure who sells the smaller ones. Maybe Airgun Werks. For shooting Open class the only extra would be a shooting harness, and no, I don't know where to get one.

I hope this helps and would be happy to answer any other questions.
