FX If you could start over with unlimited budget...

On 12 acre there is no one gun that will do it all. Your not going to walk and stalk with a 200yd long range slug slinger. It all depends on your yard also. Is it cleared, have a lot of bushes etc. If you got coyotes you are not going to use the same gun as you would for that and pigeons. If I could do it all over again, I would not change a thing. The knowledge you get from trying and doing can't be replaced by a one and done. It's part of the fun. You can call an airgun store and ask two different guys the same question and you will get two different answers in what to get. The main thing is what works for you best.

Thank you. Always easy to find opinions on guns but good compressors are hard to come by

The best guns will change over time and will be heavily dependent on your needs.

A REAL compressor will be far more important than the guns it supports in the long run. A Bauer or Alkin is going to be between 3 and 5k but it will make your PCP experience much more enjoyable.

3rd time this morning I've seen you ADAMANTLY express your opinion. To which FX PLATFORMS are you referring? Have you tried them all or just making a blanket statement based on narrow experience? I have "no use" or love for some of their offerings but great affection & respect for others. I don't vehemently trash the whole company because of my dislikes.
It took some time, effort and a lot of pellets in order that my FX Panthera Compact Hunter .25 Cal could shoot as I wanted, yes...... But now it shoots like a real champ.

Agreed. Unless it's an impact with tons of extra barrels and accessories

after 6 fx’s ,1 brk ,1 RTI and a 2 vulcans.i gave up the bullpups / tactical looks and settled on a factory tuned RAW hm1000. and i doubt i will ever look back on anything else,

What are you all doing for air? Filling a big bottle or at home compressor?
Both. I have a "Great White" tank that I use a home compressor to keep it topped off. When it gets to 35-3600, I run it back up to 4200-4300psi. I don't push my compressor to the full 4500.

I saw the Daystate come up with its digital regulation and programming. I've seen mixed opinions on it. Many shooters prefer a gun that makes regulator and hammer adjustment easy, which is something FX is great for. Other shooters prefer a set-it-and-forget reliable, simple PCP like a RAW and just pay a tuner to take care of that so they can focus on shooting. With a RAW you really don't need to send it out because they are manually tuned from the factory. (At least they were, when Martin ran the show - hopefully that hasn't changed)

I myself do not like shooting bullpups or guns made only of black metal. I like wood. I love the feel of a GRS stock - if they were more durable I'd own everything on a GRS.

Slugs get interesting at longer range and higher power. Definitely excellent for pesting, although for groundhogs I preferred pointed pellets so that they would always punch through their hide. I've tried a wide range of slugs in my high power .22 and .30 and never found one that outperformed the best pellet in good conditions. And yet I still buy and test new slugs, hoping to finally find the perfect slug.

Most firearm shooters don't immediately appreciate the fall-off of airgun projectile energy vs distance. It doesn't limit airguns to 50 yards or anything, but be aware that the 0-50y, 50-100y, and 100y+ accuracy and ballistic regimes are each different worlds. I suggest planning on using your airgun to 50y and depending on your situation, you may find it fun and effective out further than that. (I suggest *not* setting your expectations around 150y accuracy for your first airgun. That very well may not pan out.)

I never shot raccoons, skunks, or opossums. I eliminated whatever what was attracting them and they always moved along. I had a little creek at the front of my property and the one or two times an opossum wandered into the barn I carried it out by the tail across the creek and never saw it again. I did have to shoot at a fox once to keep it away and I killed multiple groundhogs because we kept horses and groundhog holes are a direct threat to horses. I also tried to reduce house sparrows in the barn and starlings generally. Any airgun can take out those little birds.

Hello, I am new to this forum and PCP air rifles. However I have been shooting, hunting, and playing paintball for over 20 years. I recently moved to a 12 acre farm with tons of space for targets and pests to eliminate. I have decided to purchase an air rifle, most likely something from FX unless one of you changes my mind. I also know I will need to purchase some supporting accessories like a scope, compressor, tanks, mods, etc.

My question is: If you could do it all over with an unlimited budget what would you buy?

My current thinking:

FX Dynamic, 500, .22 - a little shorter for hunting with pellets
Some element scope - open to suggestions
GRS top mount bipod
Donny FL moderator - open to suggestions
Some type of tripod - open to suggestions
Compressor - maybe something I could use to fill paintball tanks and the airguns

What am I missing? What would you do? Any thoughts, opinions, suggestions greatly appreciated. I will be making purchases based on your input.
One thing you need to identify is if you indeed "enjoy" shooting.

If you do not, then there are many alternatives .

If you feel pleasant to shoot, then the tool are the Daystate rifles with wood stock (Wolverine and Red Wolf).

I've only had it for a few days now but I'm really liking the M3. It can basically do anything I would personally need a PCP for. One minute its a low power .177 and then in just a few minutes its throwing .30 cal pellets as hard as it can. Like I said I've only had it for a few days so I haven't experienced any of the issues that seem to come with the level of ease changing things like that can create. If you're mechanically inclined it shouldn't be an issue for you though.

Now you didn't ask but I'm going to say it anyway since money is no object. Get yourself a good springer to go with whatever PCP you end up with. Nothing beats shooting small groups with a springy boi

Id go straight to:

FX Impact M3 Compact 25Cal/22Cal
Eagle Vision IPS Rings
Arken EPL4 MIL 4-16x
Atlas Picatinny Bipod
Hugget 30Cal Snipe Moderator
Saber Tactical Extended Rail Trigger Guard
FX Carbon Fiber Barrel Sleeve
Good Compressor like an Alkin or maybe Omega
Tripod, never owned one so I cant give you any advice.

With this setup you can shoot pellets or light slugs and its light enough to walk around with, but does great on the bench too. 10-150? meters.

Agreed, a tuned R7 is the ultimate bird and squirrel rifle. A tuned R9 is the same with a little more weight and reach.

Nothing wrong with using PCPs for small pest control but it seems my PCPs are always somewhere along a 'process' - an ever-evolving configuration. The springer just - springs. It's always ready and zeroed.

Be careful of people who tell that a certain brand or gun sucks without giving you a legitimate reason I have personally owned or have access to several different fx airguns and all of them were excellent me and my dad just went to a range that we were easily making ground squirrel size hits on targets out to 200 300 and even 400yds he is shooting a fx impact m3 25cal with altaros 50gr slugs and I was shooting an fx panthera in 25cal with altaros 60gr queens and were talking shoot make a wind call hold and then blast it so pretty impressive guns here are some 3 shot groups with my panthera at 100yds

what are some good "springers" ? I had a Crossman single shot with a barrel break and I couldn't sight that thing in for the life of me

OK. If you wanna play that game, I'd buy every airgun company and all of their inventory and all of their warehouses and shops. Might as well include the manufacturers facilities. You're all out of luck now because I'm keeping it all for myself.
The op stated "unlimited budget," so why buy junk? I also didn't get the impression from the op that he or she was looking to own everything, so your comment is pretty nol and void. Take offense if you want, I don't. If someone tells me they are looking at high end airguns and the various setups to go with it on an unlimited budget, well I get the impression they are looking for quality products.

I do feel as though the M3 is almost a default choice. I was close a few months ago to buying one but then the dynamic block was introduced so I figured that would be adapted to the m3 in the not so distant future.
