If you had to pick 3 pellets/slugs...

I will be doing some testing with a TX200 MKI (with Vortex Pro Sport). I am admittedly an ACCURACY FREAK, and have lost the battle to this addiction. However, I would like to occasionally take small game at max range 40 yds or so. I would like to try three pellets (or slugs, but I know ZERO about slugs or if that is even applicable in my gun). What do you folks suggest as a top 3 to try. Again accuracy, uniformity, and so on are top priority.

I currently use R10 match pellets, and they are very, very good. I have been out of the game for 10-12 years, so I have obviously missed a bunch of stuff lol.

I wouldn't get too excited about slugs if my only airgun was a springer. I can barely get them to work in medium-high power PCPs. They hit hard but most slugs I've tried range between inaccurate and where did it go. A few are ok accuracy.

For pellets I'd try 8-10gr diabolo shaped pellets. JSB 8.44 and 10.3 to begin. H&N, JTS, and AEA also have good pellet designs in this size range.

The bigger question is what small game do you intend to take and does your airgun have sufficient power/accuracy.

Thank you. I've been researching a bit, and it seemed like the slugs were intended for big power. I have killed raccoons, squirrels, birds, other things. The only thing that I've seen out shoot it was my FWB 300. That sucker has always been very good. I was just wondering if newer better stuff was available. I will try the JSB exact 8.44 gr and the Hades 10.3 both with diablo shape. I am so confused with the names lol, i heard that a jsb "premier" is good too?

JSB Premier 8.44 is the JSB 8.44 but supposedly hand selected. I have a box of Premier and a tin of 8.44s. I haven't bothered to inspect them under a microscope to see if I can detect a difference. The Premiers are packaged well, so that each pellet is in a pocket in the foam liner and isn't dinged up by the surrounding pellets. But the Premiers are like 3x the price.

Hades means it has indentations on the face of the pellet that should expand a bit more on impact. This does cost some ballistic coefficient but they can still be very accurate.

FX and Air Arms sell pellets made by JSB. They usually have a nearly-identical equivalent pellet across the three brands but interestingly they are not completely identical. (The 13.4gr .177s are not all the same length and diameter - but I have found my airguns shoot the FX and JSB versions equally well).

Personally I would not take any shots at raccoons with a springer airgun. Absolutely no groundhogs. Squirrels are no problem if they're headshots. Body shots on squirrels don't always bring them down. House sparrows, rabbits, and starlings are no problem.

Awesome response and thank you! That cleared up a bunch. Yes, I agree raccoons were a lot for it. mostly just squirrels (head shots) and birds, just small stuff.... not even rabbits. I will NOT get the premiers ... not going to trials lol.
