I'm founding PISTOL Extreme Field Target

And it's a real blast! Details in this link-

Assuming all goes well at the event described in the link above, I intend to also have a pistol event at the 2022 Republic Of Texas Inaugural TEXtreme Field Target Championships, to be held December 3-4, 2022. Besides cash and Airguns Of Arizona gift certificates awarded to podium placers, shooters will be competing for the titles of 2022 RoT TEXtreme Field Target Rifle Champion and 2022 RoT TEXtreme Field Target Pistol Champion.

Mark your calendars!

I think I tried to get you to shoot an unofficial "extreme pistol" FT with me at the 2017 AAFTA Nationals. No other takers but I did it anyway. For a change up, I have shot a number of AAFTA rifle matches (3/8" to 1.5" at 10 to 55 yards) using my 12fpe pistol (including the 2017 Nationals and some GP matches). It's certainly doable and probably competitive with the piston shooters.

If it was a regular thing, I might convert my 12fpe pistol to 20fpe.

I've also shot a few rifle FT matches with a sub-12 FP pistol, Scott (typically finishing in the top 40%). That being the only way to shoot pistol FT in Texas for the last several years, rather than resurrect AAFTA style pistol, since I've brought Extreme Field Target to Texas anyway, so have the perfect opportunity, thought I'd just GO BIG in bringing Pistol FT back to Texas by making it Extreme PFT.

And fun as AAFTA-style PFT is, dropping BIG extreme field targets at rifle distances with an air pistol adds a whole 'nother level to the game. In my opinion, just as regular PFT and small game hand-gunning are enjoyable pistol-shooting activities, large game hand-gunning and Extreme Pistol Field Target increase the thrills roughly proportional to target sizes and distances.

"If it was a regular thing, I might convert my 12fpe pistol to 20fpe." I suspect that's the case with most PFT shooters. And while it took a few years to nurse PFT to the level of participation we now see (approaching half of the rifle shooters at National Championships also entering the pistol matches), by piggy-backing off Extreme Field Target as it starts gaining good traction, I believe Pistol EFT might take fewer years to catch on than did AFFTA-style PFT.

BTW, if you think it's difficult to make regular field targets function reliably with hits from 4 to 20 foot pounds, imagine trying to make three-foot tall targets weighing 20 pounds function reliably with hits from 8 to 100 foot pounds! It's taken me a couple seasons to feel confident I've done it; but confident enough I now am to GET THIS PARTY STARTED!
