I’m taking the jump into the 2240

So I’m going to order a 2240 been mulling between the standard or the XL will prolly go XL. I was wanting something small and low powered to be a dedicated mouse gun. Right now I’m running my R5m at 330*fps but it’s not small and insulting to run it that low. I want it back up and in the woods again.

I’ve read where people have cut a coil or 2 off the hammer spring to wast less co2. I will be happy at 300-400fps closer to 300. I plan on doing a few upgrades in the future like a better but stock. So what would be some good reads and suppliers for mods and how well do you all like yours.

Yes you want the XL

Power adjuster would let you change power settings up or down a bit and if that is not enough you can easily change out the hammer spring through the back of the adjuster too which is a big plus.

Me, I love the 2240 myself. So much fun to shoot and modify they are. I went ahead and took a dive deep into into the money pit with mine.

Justin, I think you're on the right track. CO2 is ideal for slow to modest velocities.

And yes, the 2240 is like most CO2 guns...in stock form it wastes a lot of CO2. The simplest approach is as you said, shortening the hammer spring. If you shorten it just to the point where you see a slight drop in velocity (15 - 20fps), you'll see a significant increase in shot count and less temperature sensitivity. But if you shorten it until the velocity is down closer to 300fps, it will again become temperature sensitive (except in the opposite direction).

A better approach would be a bstaley O-ring buffer. If you're not familiar with it, just stack -113 O-rings against the valve to serve as a bumper for the hammer. Usually 3 of them will do the trick but you may have to fine tune it with spacer washers. It's a trial and error thing. Same approach though...just looking for a slight drop in velocity. With most CO2 guns I've worked with, the shot count increases anywhere from 50% to 100%.

Better still would be an SSG. It requires a little fabrication but can be done with hand tools like this one:
