Impact .177 Ratting replacement?

..after shooting my taipan again yesterday, im like damn I dont have this much enjoyment shooting my .177 impact (it doesnt suck, it actually is awesome between the shot count and mag size) , but I wanna enjoy every gun like I do when I shoot my Taipan so I am contemplating putting my .177 up for trade for something new to try and hopefully love, we all know the impacts can be had at anytime , theres a million of them out there..... and if im gunna own something that wont shoot accurately past 60 yards (60 yards was the max my .177 impact would do, of course because its .177) I want to be inlove with it.

So far the only rifle ive kept consistently (this sport is terrible in the fact it has way too many options) has been a Taipan.

What would you guys recommend trying if you were in my shoes? The wrench in the mix is, the Impact has to go before I get something else to try, whether it be sell then buy, or trade.

I would be looking at mounting these night optics onto whatever replaces it if I decide to..

Knowing you like compact guns-

Edgun Lelya 2? Owned one in .177 for a while, very solid & consistent performer. Trigger not likely to be as good as the Taipan, but mine compared well to the trigger of an Impact X I had at the time.

Thought about the EVOL Mini as well, but don't think that one's available in .177. Never owned one but it seems like it would be up your alley.

I thought about the Evol mini too, my .177 is doing 24 fpe with 13.43 and I was not having issues with blow through and ricochets so I am wondering if a detuned .22 shooting 15.89 would work.

Leyla 2 is an awesome looking rifle, and its been in my sights for a bit too. Just no real way to mount it to a tripod so it would be a last option

It really sucks loving a couple things about something but not the whole package (the shot count and magazine count of the compact impact is insane) , but I dont LOVE the rifle.

Much like you found many good things about my Taipan Long but you didn't love it like you do your Kalibrgun Carbines.

Low 800's with 15.9 or ~870 with 14.3 would get you there. Not sure how big a job it would be to get there with that particular gun. Just noticed it has a very small cylinder (135cc) so a significant decrease in shots per fill vs. the Impact.

If memory serves, the Lelya 2 .177 got ~60 something shots per 250 bar fill at 18-19 fpe, so that too would not compare well to the Impact in shots per fill (but probably similar to a Vet compact).

Shots per fill was a big reason the impact does so well ratting, i have yet to refill using that rifle, last time out I shot 35 rats lol, I always bring my tank incase though. Each rifle has its pros and cons, and theres too damn many to choose from lmao

A Ranger or Atomic XR would nicely suit your ratting requirements... My .22 Atomic has proven deadly out to 51 yards. It’s accuracy impresses me daily. You’ll be very surprised at what you can do with 17-18 FPE. The Brits are pesting machines with their 12 FPE guns. My Atomic is my go to pester... My rifles are too long and powerful at 30 FPE for ratting. Even at 17-18 FPE pass throughs are the norm on rats.

This chipper was taken at 51 yards...

I have thought about asking this one place that is infested with rats if I could shoot them. I have a Lelya .177 and it would be high on my list to take because I highly doubt I’m going to plant my butt anywhere with rats to shoot off a tripod. But of all my guns, I like shooting my Dream Tac Compact the most. With a 380mm barrel its small and handles well. It’s not a powerhouse but you don’t need one. Extremely accurate and a very soft shot cycle. After setting a forgiving base tune, you can turn it up or down in seconds depending on what pellets you want to use or for safety reasons. And in your case you could have two calibers.

Love my new Brocock Sniper XR in .177. I have it set up for HFT so shooting JSB RDMs around 810fps. That gives me just under 20 fpe. This is with with no adjustment. The regulator is set at 125 bar. The hammer spring and regulator can be adjusted. I have the shorter barrel (17 in) but the magnum version is likely to shoot with quite a bit more energy. Supper accurate out to 60+ yards. Shot dub MOA groups at 35 yds and 50 yds.

I’m thinking about the Sniper XR in .177 as well for HFT. Have you ever shot the JSB 16.2 grain pellets? I was wondering if you could tune the to shoot the 16.2s at 920-930 fps and then with the power adjuster turn the power down so you could shoot the 13.4s at the 810 fps for HFT. Having one gun for some heavier duty hunting and HFT may be too much to ask for. Thanks

Wildcatfun,
I think if you tried to shoot the 16.2's at 920 fps you would have trouble getting the hammer and valve "in harmony". It only has a 17 inch barrel and if 13.4 grainers are maxing out at 825 or so, you would have to really crank up the pressure and the hammer tension. The Huma regulators usually come in three pressure ranges and I expect the bellville washers in the stock gun are for the middle pressure range. To get to 150 or 160 bar you would probably need to get another washer set from Huma.
All that being said, the Magnum version has a longer barrel (like 24 inches I think) so it could probably shoot higher speeds with the stock regulator. Then you could use the power settings (just an air flow restrictor like in MRod) to shoot slower speeds.
Just my $.02.
