Anyone use one of these? Says it's supposed to stop the barrel vibrating. Is this really needed for the impacts?

No. Pick mine up by the barrel all the time. Poi always remains the same. If you want to lighten your wallet, get one.

Most "target" guns have no barrel support. Just use a good material of proper thickness.
It takes VERY little offset pressure to throw off center an otherwise good barrel. Been there.
