The more forward yow can mount the bipod the more control you will have in hitting the target. As a test, shoot your rifle using a sandbag for forward support, you will find the closer he bag is to the front of the rifle the more accurate your shooting will be. some time ago I made an adjustable extension for my Crownto find that sweet spot for the bipod I’ve even had the bipod in front of the rifle it seems to give you a fine tuning in adjusting your aim.

Brian the bit and pieces to make your bipod tube extension, materials ????????

that looks like it could be adapted to many rifle applications

On the end that attaches to the guns lower pic rail I used 2 scope rings

On the end where you attach the bipod I just used a screw on Picatinny rail that is held on with nuts as the aluminum tube was too thin to tap threads.

the tubbing is just aluminum tubing

at Lowe’s I purchased some plugs for the ends.

I painted the tube with flat black spray paint. And I made 2 of them one around 20” and another around 10”

How do you have the rail attached to the stock?

The force moment on the screws above must be enormous, I would be surprised if they didn't just pull out eventually, unless you have a top hat style fixing?

Plus I am not sure I agree with what you say regarding the further the better, the flex on that length must be apparent when loading the bipod? unless of course you shoot some form of free recoil?

IMO you would be better off with a shorter distance forward and a wider footprint, as in the FC-5QD ACCUTAC?

I do have top hats holding the rail to the rifle. As far as my statement the longer the better that’s an exaggeration I have found that he bipod works best being a few inches behind muzzle. The Crown in my picture will shoot more accurately setup with the bipod half way between the muzzle and the Picatinny mount on the stock. I only use this long “tool” on the bench when I’m looking to see what works best I have another 1 that’s half as long for field use. As you indicated the longer length can accidentally be stressed to cause damage.

Im attaching a video that shows the benefit of using an extension like I made but in the video it’s a store bought one that can cost over $400. It really helps with my 308 at 1000yards I’ve shot cantaloupe size groups.

Brain: That's awesome nice engineering.

Bob: That looks ideal. My crown would benefit from that i think. The stock just doesn't get forward enough for my mount.

spray: i have found that personslly, loading a bipod is a must for center fire, and counterproductive for my air-rifles. Spotting my own hits CF is impossible under 300 without a solid load. The airguns I have done seem to like being loaded. I wish they did.

If I understand your question correctly, the extension will simply allow you more options on the placement of bipod. Further forward is generally good for stability but shooting styles vary and for me, there is such a thing as too far forward. UA had one for a very brief time that I liked more than the kraford and lipt.... No clue what happened to it.

Kraford and Lypt now has the T-rail feature on the Gen2 guards, where you can slide the rail to any position. Even more adjust-ability than the (knockoff trigger guard), FX is selling that Donny is behind.
