FX Impact hammer not floating?

So I installed a 8.5 gram hammer weight and to get the speed Im looking for I gotta turn up the power. When I turn up the power wheel the hammer doesn’t float anymore, but I’m getting the power I’m looking for.

Is it ok for the hammer not to float? Or should I go to the heavy tungsten hammer?

My MK2 hammer floats, but I mirror polished the spring ends, also the valve spring as well.
The tungsten is about 14 gram if I could recall, depend of the plenum size that would work only with bigger calibres like 30 or 35.

If the Impact hammer not floating on the Valve Rod that means there is a friction between two parts. If there is a friction that means there will be inconsistencies.

Would the 14 gram tungsten hammer be too much for 27 to 30 grain slugs in .22cal? I’m thinking I can use that hammer with less spring to get it floating.

Many people will tell you don't use a tungsten weight for .22

I do not agree. By free floating we mean that when the gun is not cocked the hammer can move back and forth. If the spring is short or the hammer weight collar is thin then the free floating will happen. If you need just a tiny bit to get free floating you can back C1 bumper off a little.

With the current hammer weight and spring, when it free floats it doesn’t have enough power. When I get it just past to where it isn’t free floating I have enough power.

Factory hammer is plenty for 27 grain hammer depending on what you mean. The hammer weight is has more to do with regulator pressure than just power even though they are related. The Tungsten hammer is for reg pressure 155-180, factory hammer is good up to 150 bars. If you want to shoot those slugs then set your regulator to 150 bars and use the preload to get to the speed you want. Keep in mind you don't want/need 1000+ fps, if you want those 33 grain slugs to fly at 1000fps then you will need your reg to be around 160-170 to go with the tungsten hammer.

HOWEVER, I'll tell you right now all you need is around 900fps regardless of the slug weight. It's so much smoother and efficient and coincidentally more accurate thanks to everything not pushed to the limit.

How do they do shooting long range in the low 900s? Like 200 yards.

Same way as anyone shoot 200 yards in the high 900? Why would 20-50fps make much difference besides a little lower POI at 200 yards? For giggles I shoot 12.5 grain NSA slugs at exactly 800fps out of my crown with 380mm 177 barrel out to 200 meters, if the wind is fairly consistent I can easily hit 4 inch disk out at the range.

I have another Impact. A Utah Air M3 .22 slugger edition with the FX tungsten hammer and slug kit. It has no floating hammer.
My .35 impact is the same from factory. If the the valve rod is rubbing it's bend. The valve rod floats within the hammer wieght and is guided/align by the Spring holder Impact "C8". Preloading the hammer spring to where you have no hammer movement casues no issue. Just more POWER, If tuned correctrly.
