Tuning Information needed to install huma in Prod

Its gonna be a wash in benefit (or the lack of) on the shot count department.

3 Of my P-Rods all at different power tune levels with HUMAs and B Staley O ring Buffers say so plus your manometer won't work either. Two have a manometer delete for the breather hole and another has manometer that only reads reg pressure.

You will have to buy the probe with manometer front end conversion too if you don't wanna count your shots by that time you coulda almost bought an Ataman Ap16.

I put a Huma in mine. It was easy. The one piece of advice I can give you is buy a new poppet. Put it in when you install the reg. The old poppet was subjected to unregulated abuse and probably won’t seal. I went with a realistic tune with my Prod and am very happy. I didn’t try to turn the gun into something it’s not. Here are my settings. Huma at 120b, 3.5mm porting, no internal valve mods, stock HS in a SSG. I get 25 shots with 14.3’s at 717fps. The lack of a gauge made me strive for a 3 mag tune so I know when to fill.

Thanks alot guys! It looks like I'm better off staying where I am! I have done extensive work and spent hours on end tuning and trying different ammo and settings. With the Bstaley mod I was able to get 24 shots for only 11-12ftlbs 680fps.

I wanted a litte extra knockout power so I deleted the Bstaley and gained more speed. I'm currently getting 20ftlbs for about a good mag and a half which is cool with me just wanted a tighter spread.

Here's a copy of a shot string after my final tune

You may try using a longer 20 inch Marauder Rifle length barrel vs 12 inch P-Rod barrel if it's power you want. It will be pretty long though.

You may even opt for a MMHF 14 or 16 inch custom length of you wish.

I'd go that route instead of a regulator because you can hit stuff at 80 yards with cheap Crosman CPHPs after that.

No I'm not looking for power out of the Prod. My intentions were to use it for backyard pesting of sparrows and chipmunks and I got carried away.

I think I'm good on speed now I'm looking to make it consistent.

I don’t think a sparrow or chipmunk will know the difference between 700 and 800fps in a back yard. Sometimes when a gun doesn’t offer a lot to work with, we can’t get hung up on a few feet per second. Maybe shoot for 2 full mags at 750fps.

Your right ,but you know how it is once you get into something its hard to stop. At least for me it is I think I'm OCD

Yeah, I used to try to turn pea shooters into cannons but usually just wound up with an air hog that wasn’t fun to shoot or reliable. The best way to embrace your OCD is to treat your guns like golf clubs. Right now you’re trying to tee off with a pitching wedge. The Prod is not a powerhouse so use that OCD to make it the best 600-700fps gun you can. If you need more power, grab your next perfectly tuned gun that spits 18.1’s at 880 or so. My 717fps Prod comes in handy when my Taipan or Dreamtac is just a little too much. If you can come up with a realistic working mans tune for your Prod, it will be much more beneficial to the masses that read your topic than if you create a 10 shot wonder cannon. Most guys who buy this gun want the best shot count and power to hand pumping ratio possible. Most strive for a 3 mag tune. It would be nice if you could achieve a slightly more wicked 2 mag tune for Prod owners to have in their back pockets.

With the Bstaley Oring Mod I do get 24 shots at 680fps 12ftlbs. This Prod has a great barrel it shoots alot of ammo very accurately with the 15.89g being the most accurate.

I just wanted to be around the 18ftlbs for that occasional tree rat, all though main purpose is for feathers. If I could get 15ftlbs using the Bstaley I would use. Maybe a stiffer spring would do the trick.

I had a SS valve in my Prod for about a year. You could have had some fun with that thing but I sold it to a guy over on GTA when I finally regulated my gun. That valve definitely opened more doors but as my airgun knowledge grew, I understood the crippling effects of a tiny air tube, wanting velocity and a flat curve. A reg, no limits porting as long as you stay under caliber, then just tune to what your plenum will give you made more sense.

Ok so you convinced me to reinstall the Bstaley mod. I'm now currently shooting at 645fps using 14.3g crosman pellets. Hey at least I'm getting 3 mags again with better consistency. Seems to burp air when it gets around 2000psi and below sounds like a automatic almost.?

Thanks Jim. There is not a lot of room to work with in a Prod so a short stiff spring or dual springs present quite a task. I didn’t want anything sticking out the back of my gun like a conventional SSG does when the gun is cocked. My Prod, which i call a Weerod is in a rifle stock. So I went with I guess what is referred to as a FFH. A free flight hammer. My spring is attached to my hammer. You don’t need much free flight to stop hammer bounce thankfully because like I said, there is limited space in there.

Oh man that is nice! What stock is that? Update:

So after tuning, retuning and more tuning I found a few things. 1.The Bstaley Mod wasn't working out as intended causing hammer bounce 2.The Bstaley also cause my settings to back out repeatedly 3.Speed was lower using the Bstaley Oring mod.

I removed the 4 orings and eliminated the hammer bounce causing unreleased air and gained my speed back. After understanding the spring tensions I have settled for 725fps using crosman 14.3g with just adjusting the spring. I also drilled the TP and Valve to match at .109 or 7/64.

Now I'm getting 3 mags starting pressure of 3k to 1500psi with only a larger TP and valve and adjusting the spring. I am exhausted after hours with this Prod! This will be my final tune and thanks for all the help.
