insane amount and variety of pcps!

I had a Marauder back not long after they first came out and only ever had the hand pump so I sold it and just stuck with with my springers and firearms. lately I've been getting way more back into airguns and decided I need to get back into PCP with a compressor. So after joining here, I watch the classifieds and read the forums pretty much all the time I don't have anything better to do, and most of the time I have something better to do, also. It's really destroying my sleep cycle!

So my issue is this. I had absolutely no clue as to the amount of variety that there is! It's astounding to me. And because I have no clue, it seems senseless to me. I have an old FX Tarantula, and really like the FX brand as much as I know about it, so that's what I'm drawn towards. Let alone the plethora of brands out there, FX seems to have 955 models of their own! I can't make sense of them. To me, about half the models look almost identical, with only small differences, or sometimes none that I can even see whatsoever. Then there are about 75 brands that have all sorts of models that look the same also. This is very different coming from firearms, where most brands have a just a few different models, and I primarily shoot rimfire, so each brand has usually one or two models at most.

So I'm not sure how to make sense of them all, but almost all that come up in the classifieds I look at and decide that's the one I want.... until the next one comes up!

This is going to be tough

I jumped down into the 'PCP Rabbit Hole' myself! Tried many different brands as I work my way even deeper!
Ended up with a Lathe, drill press. 3D printer, etc!
Many brands were OK but getting parts for some is like finding a Unicorn! And support or diagrams for most?
Bozo the Clown would probably give you more assistance! I left those brands behind me.

As toasty was asking - some info on what you want to do with it would help.

Are you hunting, plinking, target?
What distances will you be shooting?
Do you want long or short?
What's you price range?
What caliber / power?
Is loud okay or do you need it quiet for a backyard with neighbors?
And todays answer is...Maverick, Maverick, Maverick, and lastly, Maverick. Ok, I'm a touch biased but....Maverick.

ok. so how does the Maverick differ from other FX models?

I mostly target shoot and plink at spinners and such. I do want to shoot gophers that terrorize my yard and a real plus would be to dispatch racoons which I have aplenty. I don't want to shoot wild pigs or deer, but when I see posts of the big bores doing that I suddenly do want to!

So I don't know? a .22 would probably do good enough? lots of shots per fill. the chassis type because I mostly shoot off a bench or my porch railing. But then I also walk the woods squirrel hunting, so something like the Daystate Huntsman would work for that especially considering I am always partial to a weed stock and nice bluing. walnut preferably......

I think I just talked myself into at least two different guns.

I'm starting my slippery slope slowly🥴got a little pcp pistol in .22 and a hand pump. Didn't realize how many other shooting accessories I was.missing in order.to have a funner.time out shooting; so I opted for buying some goodies for now. I'll end up posting my finds as soon as they all come in🤪🤙
Idk how to describe what I am going to reveal....
Keep watch🤣

A .22 Huntsman would do all you are saying there. Plenty powerful and accurate for plinking out to 100 and can dispatch pests coon sized and down.

Hey, are you the one-eyed, bat-sh*t crazy, ex-governor of Florida from the Carl Hiaasen books? THAT Skink? It's nuts, the amount of guns & options that are available now! So many bells & whistles & o-rings & SO many things an unsuspecting airgunner can screw up & make worse. Personally, I try keep it simple (FX Bocat, Boss & Royale). Simple design, simply amazing out of the box accuracy.

Never been to Florida yet, nor been in a book.

So one of the troubles I'm having is differentiating the different models. There are so many that seem so similar. Why is that?

I have an FX monsoon on the way... I got it because it was cheap and supposedly works and shoots well. But I know things have progressed a long ways since those were discontinued. These things seem like potatoe chips and once you start it's hard to stop until you either run out of money or your arteries stop up and you die

Buy a Uragan and be happy therein after.

Super Accurate, reliable, excellent quality, two magazines, comfortable to shoulder.

Vulcan 3 is must the same as Uragans but much easier to disassemble and reassamble (if needed).

Airgun Technology rifles are Years light more reliable than FX.

Vulcan and Urqgan are more powerful than Daystate Huntsman, but If you are comfortable with a .22 with 30 fpe, then the Huntsman is a super option too.

I would ONLY include Brocock as an alternative to Uragan/Vulcan 3 - Daystate, Exclusively !!!!

I have eyed up the Uragan and that is definitely on my list.

The one thing about the racoons around here is that they get to the size of small german shepherds. I would really hate to be underpowered shooting one of those monsters. I've gotten real clean headshots with 22lr and still had them escape on me before.

small german shepherds might be just slightly embellished.

Daystate Huntsman would be a first choice If i were to start over as a nubie . Huntsman is good gun , targets ++ , vermin eradication ++ , tin cans ++
cheese balls tossed in the lawn , 60 yard Squirrels ++ And coons , even with .22lr shot placement is important , head is large compaired to the brain.

Take your time and let all of the information you acquire, set in.
The time you spend on your purchase will greatly affect your overall shooting experience. There are some nice offerings from budget to hi end. There are other items to consider such as, a fill source, scope, ammo, case/bag, range finder targets, chronograph, and much more. All of the for mentioned items have a rabbit hole of their own. The more informed you are, the easier it is to navigate the rabbit holes, and it helps folks on the forum give you better answers to your questions.
