Apparently laminate takes a lot more time and effort to do which contributes to the cost difference. I called AOA and asked the same thing and the dude on the phone pretty much agreed that the other 2 stocks didn't really offer any performance difference from the baseline carbon gray. You can upgrade the barrel tensioner for 100 bucks and I know that hard case it comes with isn't worth 800 bucks.

Laminated stocks also tend to weigh more

After some consideration, I've reached a conclusion. It's a really nice gun, but I just can't justify the substantial price premium over the other rifles that I'm considering - Skout Evo and Daystate Red Wolf. Throw a Ghost in the mix as well, with similar features at a much lower price point.
I have a hard time spending over 3k on any pcp I'll take a Texan any day.

The color coded hammer springs in conjunction with the multi-step power adjuster seems intriguing to me. I like the adjustable stock on the tactical model. Overall this looks like a really cool new platform for Daystate customers.

It’s a ghost in a traditional stock
or
a ghost begat with a Wolverine sapphire
and made a baby called the:

Blackwolf

looks to be very simplified internally and externally which is good!

100%.

Not a bad thing though. The Ghost is pretty close to perfection imho, barrel availability/variety aside. So refining it and making great even more awesome and putting it in a different form for a change? I like it! What I don’t like is maintaining the barrel secrecy and arbitrary pricing. No reason to have 1k difference due to a stock and a $100 barrel tensioner. Feels random. But I guess that goes for the pricing in general.

I like the gun and at 2k-ish I would have probably already ordered one. But at around 3k for the walnut or laminate I’ll wait for a sale (in a couple of years I guess) or for daystate to see reason. Wife would anyway bust my balls if I’d tell her I am going to get a 3.2k airgun, and not in a good way :)

I went to Airguns of Arizona today and put my hands on their floor models. I also had a great chat with Chris J about the Black Wolf vs the Ghost and Red Wolf.

I thought I liked the walnut from online pictures, but in person the laminate is way better to my eye. The walnut looks unfinished while the laminate is shiny with more subtle figuring than the pictures imply.

I was prepared to not like the plastic comb, but it felt great against my face. Nice and smooth, not too much texture.

What they say about the trigger is not hyperbole. I test fired this gun back to back with a Red Wolf and the triggers felt almost the same. That's what pushed me over the edge to finally make my decision.

After about an hour of chatting and handling the guns, I put a deposit down on a laminate .22 in 23". Wish me luck!

That would be the one I’d get as well…

Watched Sub12’s teardown video of the Blackwolf…

… interesting that this is a mechanical Daystate that may not use their slingshot hammer system.

It uses a traditional valve in sub12 ft/lb versions and a balanced valve in full power versions.

Perhaps with the balanced valve and large plenum, it will utilize a lower regulator pressure than used in Wolverines and Huntsmans…?
Following up on my post…

Sub12 answered my question.

The Blackwolf does NOT use Daystate’s slingshot hammer. Instead it uses a new hammer system - similar to hammer system used on BRK Ghost:

Mine is ordered in HP .177 with Walnut, 23” barrel with Volumax regulator. In regards to the different hammersprings I have ordered the one that packs max. Lets see when such gun arrive to the shores of Denmark. The dealer weren’t really sure yet.

The VoluMax extended plenum is only an option with the Daystate BlackWolf TAC version 🐺🙃
