Introduction- New to PCP

Hi all,

I am a new member but not completely new to air rifles. Started with my trusty Crossman .177 rifle as a young Cub Scout and had a CO2 Crossman BB pistol followed by a Beeman pellet pistol. I currently have a Gamo Whisper Fusion Mach 1. It’s fine for messing around but it reignited my love for air rifles and I want to step up to something better. The Brococks have always caught my eye and I’m currently in the market for a Sahara .22. I think I will get a small compressor but don’t shoot a ton and am not sure if I should just get a small bottle.

Any recommendations on other items I should consider? What are thoughts on bipods vs bag rests? Most of my shooting will be from a bench. I definitely will run a moderator. Any significant difference between 0db and DonnyFL?

Thanks in advance.

If you have a convenient place to have a bottle filled (check first / ask the manager if they will fill) before you buy a tank. Some places will not .
from your description i think a less complicated gun might suit you better. Look into Daystate .
moderators depends on situation , how close neighbors that WILL complain are
Several guys in your area talk to them .

I have a Brocock Sniper Magnum in the desert color. It is a beautifully shooting rifle.

I’m not certain what Beerthief is referring to as “complicated.” With more than 20 pcps in my collection, this rifle requires virtually no maintenance and will very likely shoot well out of the box, particularly if you purchase it from AIRGUNS OF ARIZONA.

Mine has the 0dB moderator on it, wears an AccuTac G2 bipod, and a Hawke 8x40 ED scope on Eagle Vision mounts. It will shoot moa at 85 yards shooting the AA 25.4 Gr pellet. My rifle is in .25 caliber.

There are so many good pcps now on the market, it is hard to go wrong if you purchase it from any of the reputable AGN sponsors.

Good luck!

If you're in SoCal like your name suggests, then you will have no problems finding a place to fill a bottle to 4500 psi. But certainly do call around to the local shops to ask ahead of time and to get pricing. Compressors are a huge PITA and can often turn into money/time pits. Get a full sized SCBA to have someone else fill and never look back! Just my advice.

Thank you. There are a number of scuba shops in the area so I will definitely call around. Any idea how many 450cc bottle fills you get from a large tank?

The rifle I’m looking at is in the classifieds now and came from AoA recently. I plan to reach out to Mel about his WTS once my DM access is enabled. Thanks!

Can you elaborate on the “less complicated” comment? From what I read, the Brococks were well made and not too finicky.

As for neighbors, they are pretty chill. I’ve been using the Gamo but it does have some report but no complaints yet. I’m hoping a moderated Sahara will be quieter but not sure.

Probably around 20 full re-fills (~150bar back to 230-250bar) for a large 450cc bottle like that. Then maybe 10 or more additional fills just with a slightly lower shot count each time. Hard to tell since I fill bottles anywhere from 160cc to 480cc on any given day.
