Iron/open sight spring gun contest for pellets?

So to clarify. It sounds like I could use any sort of front rest, as long as it’s not as you described a mechanical rest in a sled format. The first go around is 177, with any type of open sites, As long as there is no magnification.

It does not sound like there’s any limitation in the number of targets I shoot, I just choose my best.

I personally don’t know of those programs that automatically measure, I know Harry (Yrrah) used to use one, I’m just not a techie guy.

in my opinion, the best possible rifle you could use for this, is what Michigander is using above. Either that or an original FWB 124. I own both types, unfortunately they all have the sites removed and scopes installed. So I’ll have to find something else that fits the bill. Possibly an HW 55, or my FWB 150. Good contest.

This is not my official entry. I just wanted to give Mr. Michigander something to think about. That is an absolutely awesome group he shot off sticks. I’m using a front rest. The forecast for today is windy, I don’t think I’m going to set any records at this point. I was pretty lucky to get This group. Four of the shots measured .6, five stretches it out to just under an inch. Just getting warmed up and calibrated.

I’ve told the guys that simply have to use scopes due to older eyes they may.

I don’t mind as long as the participants are honest about what they shot the groups with.

It’s all pretty much for fun and I know many of you will show some PCP guys that springers can be amazing.

Here's my two entries.

Conditions were calm-ish and sunny! Pretty rare morning for this time of year because spring is our windy season. I used a cheap portable bench, the rest that's attached to it, and a Triad Tactical rear bag. All are 5 shot groups shot at 40Y.

On the left - the blue colored bulls, all four targets were shot from my Steyr LGB1 Biathlon trainer which is 6pe using JSB 8.4's. The rifle has a Athlon Talos BTR 4-14x44 mounted on it. Smallest .329"

On the right, the black bulls with blaze orange centers, all three targets were shot with my FWB 601/5.5 fpe with factory aperture's and using R10's. Smallest .508"

as James said, pretty much everything is legal to make it fun. That said, the Steyr above is in a whole Nother category...Not a bad category, just different.

I was feeling kind of guilty shooting my incredibly accurate FWB 150. Now I have a new goal, to beat your .329, with my Springer. It may take a day or two, as that’s an excellent group for a 6 foot pound rifle at 40+ yards.

Half the reason I'm entering these rifles is to show that a 6fpe rifle is capable of shooting this far out and retaining decent precision!!! The other half is it's fun, right??!! Well I am a 59 year old so my eyes are funky and I don't see the irons like I used to. 

I forgot to mention that both rifles are not tuned, nothing has been done to them except adjust the trigger, LOP, and cheek piece.

There's no way I would have been able to shoot these groups with either rifle if it had been normal winds, but I got lucky! Even as is with the 601 you can see the tiny bit of wind there was - widened the groups a bit.

I sold my FWB 300s springer but might ask my friend if I can borrow his. Or maybe I'll try my $50 CZ youth springer, lol. It's the only springer I have left.

Format for measuring groups. A close up of your group with the back calipers clearly showing the center points of the outside holes. this one was a heartbreaker! Not my entry, but it could have been with a little luck.

So as not to let this post, or at home small competition for fun/learning die, I’m proposing the following.

Many of you here are actual competitors. I don’t compete nor travel. With 2 small children still at home I’m hoping someone with more time & experience in the various classes can step up. 
Anyone willing to judge or keep the timeline for everyone else? I’m still willing to donate JSB 8.44’s that a tight bore .177 should love.

I’m gonna try a 40 yard target 1st 5 after sight in with open factory RWS on a .177 48 with 10.5 CPHP’s.

Same 1st 5 at 40 with a HW30 w/ a Hawke 2x7x32 on 3x using JSB 8.44’s that are all between.1760” & .1765”

Get me a strong cup o tea and start while winds are down. Posting in a short bit.

3 good shots with 10.5 CPH’s from John Thomas Tuned 1988 TO1 using both eyes open. 1 high, 1 low with both open.

Top deep mark wasn’t from this session. Black Sharpie filled POA not a shot from this session. Closest 3 shots were under .375” ctc. I broke calipers & mics out later to compare.

Zoom in on that front blade. I’m no expert but Swiss jewelers files.

Top black mark was my POA.

3 good shots with left eye only.

Tried both eyes open like you’re supposed to with a scope. 
Well I can tell you that good shooting glasses with a blinder sure would probably help make these easier.

You can see my modified front sight. Not ideal but better than I’d ever get with factory ones. Who does laser alignment and fine milling of irons?

If you shoot well enough to win, why would you want a different gun? See it the same as golf tournament that gives putter to longest put and driver to longest drive winner.

Well it seems I either need better sights, eyes, or a better gun as I can’t seem to top the best.

I’d love to try a gun like some shown here. Lately it’s been slugs, long range but my desire for surgical precision at 6-12ftlbs is there.

Bumping this thread and reserving this spot for my CRAPPY AIRGUN NATIONALS rifle, as my friend calls it, lol.
