Other Is an unmoderated .25 going to be quieter than a moderated .30?

Sort of a difficult question with many different facets, I know.

To be precise - if this helps - I’m looking at .25 Akela’s and a .30 JTS Brawn w/no specific moderator. I gotta keep this one in particular backyard friendly.

will the .25 Akela always be quieter than a moderated .30 Brawn?

I think you should start thinking in terms of fpe more than caliber. How much can a moderator compensate, 20% dB, more? F=PXA. For a given fpe output the dB should be similar. Since the .30 caliber has more (A) then for a given pressure (F) then will be greater thus more fpe and consequently thus more db.

My 30Cal Compact FXs are certainly much louder than my 25Cal Compact FXs same reg settings. But you are also trying to compare two different pcps. They have different shrouds, different barrel lengths, different valving, different transfer-ports etc. I would expect the 25Cal Akela to be quieter, but it really depends on all the variables.

ETA: I just noticed your title is Moderated vs Non-Moderated too. Likely the one with a moderator will be quieter.

I've shot well over 30 pcps in my 4-5 years of hunting iguanas. The only rifle I have NEVER put a moderator on, has been the Akela .22 the only gun I've ever heard quieter than it, was a .22 armada. Idk how the .25 Akela would be noise wise, but the baffles inside the Akela shroud work so damn well, a moderator simply is needed. Again this is for the .22, not sure how the .25 would fair.

Not funny at all. I shoot my AZ full shroud Raw hm1000x. 30 from my deck all the time. It can be done.
