Other Is an unmoderated .25 going to be quieter than a moderated .30?

Sort of a difficult question with many different facets, I know.

To be precise - if this helps - I’m looking at .25 Akela’s and a .30 JTS Brawn w/no specific moderator. I gotta keep this one in particular backyard friendly.

will the .25 Akela always be quieter than a moderated .30 Brawn?

My gauntlet 30 at 92 is quieter than my both of my Uragan 2's

At least a Sumo sized mod, if not a Ronin sized mod. I've only owned 1 .30cal and I had it set at 100 foot pounds and used a Sumo. I don't know how backyard friendly you need. It's been 10+ years since I needed "backyard Friendly," and I would have not used or even considered a .30cal.

In my particular case, I disagree. My Royale 500 (.25) IS backyard friendly. Quieter than my FX Boss (.30) with a Donny Ronin. The .25 has always been very quiet & subtle for that caliber. There are probably other .25's out there that are also quiet & don't fit that blanket statement you made.

Too bad they're plastic. I try to keep that crap off my guns lol.

It's hard to believe that moderator would work very well. I've had zero luck with those 3D printed ones. None I've tried did much for me, even on lower power guns. Honestly the best mods I've ever had were Neil Clague and factory HW or Kral mods.

I need to see if this kral one I have will clear 30 cal pellets, because it's quieter than my tanto or koi. It's barely a pffft noise on my 22 rodpup.

I can disagree, one without any air is pretty quiet but I believe that defeats the purpose of an air gun. I'm behind a 6' wooden fence and shrubs, paralleling a road that people walk on and I've never, knocking on wood, had anyone say anything about either my .25 maverick or my .25 Raptor, both running Donny FL Mods. I'm in the "what was that noise, I'm scared" neck of the woods. Squirrels chattering send people into dialing 911 here.

I hear you. This was working okay for a 115fpe it was putting out before the barrel chop, but at the 92 foot-pounds that it's currently shooting. It's working extremely well.

Actually watch this, i recorded this for another member just to show him the difference in noises between the U2 compact, U2 700mm and the gauntlet thirty.

To me the 30 sounds louder and has more of an air dump sound after the shot. The compact sounded quieter, but it's always hard to tell on a video over a phone lol.

Maybe that's because I shot it into the ground rather than down range so the amount of dirt cavitation made it sound louder. But it's definitely not as loud as the uragan 2 specifically before of the twang, but neither is really loud.

My Daughter lives there, same town . When i visit her i leave all weapons of any kind at my friends in Vegas , being a foreigner (Kentuckian ) just do not want any hassle .

Well, I've been lucky now for a few years. I really PUSHED it today. Was playing with some AEA 49.2's in my Raptor at about 880fps, was wondering what my AEA 30.2's would do. THAT was a mistake or very close to it, 1080fps, it smacked the steel rather briskly. It was a fairly cool day so the sound carried. when I first got the Raptor it sent out the 33.9's at the speed of sound, not a pleasant surprise, that wasn't suppose to happen.

Yeah, I’m actually thinking of just buying Rich’s factory refurbed .25 Akela from AR. I’d buy his .22 if it was still there but alas it is not. All signs point to .30 being a bad idea. Then, for ”funsies” I still want to put a quality moderator on it. Thanks for your insight.

i also am considering an airacuda max in .22 or .25
