This is proving very informative and quite an education for me...had no idea that air guns were already being controlled or regulated in some states. I don't have a major issue with registration but the FFL transfer is my burr in the saddle...I like to purchase and get delivery to me without knowing a guy with an FFL to do me a favor. I am concerned...can't help it.

I was just thinking that a .25 or .30 bullpup would actually be a good spy movie weapon, but the point that most crooks wouldn't spend $2500 on a airgun is well taken. There have been several fatalties that I have seen in the nightly news where people have been accidentally killed with high power springers. In both cases I can remember, some kid was shot in the heart when accidentally steaping in the line of fire when the shooter was shooting at targets. My assumption was that, in both cases, there were a bunch of boys, probably drinking, and someone got stupid. These new guns are so powerful that it is going to keep happening, and that is what is going to get airguns on the radar of legislators.

That's a couple week from changing.... *I think.

Airguns are legally considered firearms in Michigan, but a new package of laws takes effect July 1 reclassifies airguns..... They will no longer be firearms.

I'm a little unclear if guns like the Silent Cat were ever illegal. I'm no historian but I think I have this right:

A former MI gave an Opinion that suppressed airguns are illegal. A common misconception is that AG's Opinion "carry the force of law". Look at it this way.... Americans ain't exactly ok with one person making a law, think checks and balances but I dirges.

The AG works for the Govenor and Legislator. They give expert opinion and MI's at least is active in influencing law. In fact ours is pretty overt about his attention to run for Governor... Again I degrees.

Anyway, a legal challenge through the courts would be necessary before an AG's opinion is black and white. Even now commerce in suppressed air rifles is free flowing.

MI airgun laws were stupid and open to interpretation. I think risk aversion is why guns like the gammo were not sold. That worry never seems to apply to a Maurader.

That's not accurate^ That's exactly what my previous post was getting at. The 2nd amendment says "right to bear arms" it does NOT say "right to bear firearms". It's something I could see attorneys arguing for a long time. Air guns could very well be protected by the 2nd amendment. Arms, firearms - what's the difference??

How is that different than firearms? Firearms are illegal in Washington DC, New York City and other metropolitan areas.

Why do you think that the above statement is not accurate? Why do you think that there is some ambiguity as to the meaning of the word "arms" in the 2nd Amendment? Chicago and Washington D.C. both banned all firearms using a city ordinance. It was later determined through the courts that these bans violated our "Right to Bear Arms" as provided to us through the 2nd Amendment. Subsequently, both bans were struck down. Today, if you can obtain a permit in either of these cities, you can own a firearm. NYC has always allowed gun ownership, you need to get a permit. If air powered guns were banned by city ordinance there is no 2nd amendment protection, they are simply banned. If you go to the Pyramyd Air web site, you will find a section called "Shipping Restrictions". This is a list of cities that they cannot ship to. In some cases air guns are banned all together, in other cases it's illegal to sell or purchase air guns within the city limits. Take note that in some cities sling shots are illegal.
