Is it me or does this also make you cringe a bit?

If you are ethical, you do not take the shot. Waiting a moment or three may present a better shot, or no shot at all.
That is how it should work. Yes, we all occasionally miss our mark, if that is happening often please shoot paper until such time that you can get the job done CLEANLY. No bleeding heart here, show some responsibility as we are all in this together. Please kill the vermin quickly and cleanly.
Hunting vermin is about eliminating a pest, not waiting for a prefect shot. Btw, ALL my deer hunting has been with flintlock rifle I built. I’ve passed up many shots. I’ve managed to kill 4 bucks & 3 does with 7 round lead balls. On the ground on public land not from a tree stand. Deer aren’t usually shot in the head because it’s an iffy shot …..hence a body shot & most of the time they run a short distance. Not DRT. Is this a humane shot? Shooting a rat ETAL not quite the same IMHO.

cringe a bit,......

I got to cleanup a dead Coyote in the yard this afternoon. It had taken to stinking bad enough to be able to track it down. Then it was a pitch/hay fork, and a large rolling trash dumpster, for pickup tomorrow by the local trash service.
I almost threw-up, only once.
The stank of death was strong.

Funny coincidence, I picked up two this morning. They were nice and fresh and smelled like coyote.

I’m on the same page generally with Rich B and Bedrock. But it’s a coyote. So I give way more leeway. If he was winging Hail Marys at a deer or elk, I would have come unglued. Coyote? I just don’t care. Get it dead or at least festered. If there suddenly were no more coyotes on earth, it wouldn’t matter. I despise them. They show no mercy in what they do so neither do I. A game animal, different story.

The guy wasn't eliminating pests. He was shooting a video. He was killing for sport.

That's fine. But he just didn't do a good job of it. Repeatedly.

Killing is groovy. But you must learn to do it a lot better than that before posting it to YouTube.

He pulled the trigger when things weren't right. He posted a video when things weren't right. The entire venture was mediocre. So I give it a "C-". He would have gotten an "F" if he had failed to bring him down.

All animals are not treated with the same respect. True. But all life is sacred. Killing is a responsibility even if your killing a rat. You get it done right or you don't do it.

Animals are not target practice nor ballistic tests. And most guys hunting pests are not doing any service to anyone. They are just sport killing. There is nothing wrong with that as long as you don't try to justify it by diminishing the animal you are hunting. Or pretending you are doing nature a service. That's just crap. Your just killing for sport.

We are all killers. Just like the coyote. We pretend that we are "saving the sheep" but we're not. We are just killing coyotes. For the same reason a coyote kills a sheep. Because it appeals to us.

The guy in the video was just an inexperienced kid that is learning how to kill an animal. He may think he was showing his skills but he showed his lack of them. He got the job done though and that is to his credit.

We were all there at one point. Im happy there isn't videos of my hunting failures for a bunch of old killers to critique on the internet forums. I would hope that if there were I'd have enough sense not to post them on Youtube.
