Is it me or does this also make you cringe a bit?

Not really knowing your DOPE and shooting at a moving target, hoping something will hit… somewhere…
Nice video though, and I do appreciate the efforts put into it. It’s probably just me, but made me cringe.

I couldn't agree more! No animal deserves less than a hunter's best effort at a humane kill shot.

Having said that, all hunters (including myself) make less than perfect hits on animals and it's a shame, but it's hunting. If a person can't except the risk of wounded animals then that person should find a different hobby.

Take out your vermin humanely please. Some of the pure garbage I see on youtube is quite disgusting. I enjoy picking up tricks and techniques from the pest control guys, who I might add take their time and dispatch the vermin humanely. Kill insects any old way you would like to. Taking vermin humanely raises your Karma score. It's also not a "bad advertisement" for our hobby.

Please don't misunderstand, good vermin is dead vermin. How we do it matters. I tend to wonder about the Lead we leave behind in the vermin continuing it's journey up the food chain when another critter eats our "leavings" I reckon pass through shots are ideal in that respect. Back when I shotgunned jack rabbits we would pick them up and dispose of them due to the amount of Lead left in them.

Should we not need to hold ourselves to higher standards than just persistence?
That’s your way of thinking and that’s fine. I wouldn’t take a shot on a deer or elk that I wasn’t confident in making, but coyotes are a different story in my world. The only good coyote is a dead one, but where you’ve never dealt with them before, let alone, hunted them, you probably put them on a way higher pedestal than what they deserve. Take a stroll out through your sheep herds over there after a fox has been through and maimed ewes and ate the guts out of a lamb while it’s laying there bawling until it dies. Maybe you’ve never had to deal with that kind of stuff, but I have and it’s very disheartening to see, so no, coyotes don’t fit in that standard.

The only issue I take with the video is the running shots.
I don’t think people should shoot running game. Chances for wounding go way up because precise placement is impossible. Running game changes speeds and varies its course constantly.
Other than that it was just hunting a wild animal in a wild place. Nothing is text book when you do that.

A young guy with little experience shooting a YouTube video.

His motivation was not hunting but killing an animal on camera.

The camera shooting was equally as important to him as his coyote shooting. He shot a coyote for the camera rather than using the camera to capture a good shot.

His priorities are mixed up. He is killing for the wrong reasons. A pitfall many "hunters" make. Consequently his performance in the field was less than stellar.

I get where you’re coming from, especially with coyotes causing havoc with livestock. It must be distressing to see that up close—it certainly colours your opinion. However, I’d like to point out that you don’t know what I’ve witnessed or dealt with. Assuming I’ve just been sitting idly by while predators run riot feels a bit dismissive, don’t you think?

I’m not putting coyotes on a pedestal. My concern is about giving every animal, whether pest or predator, a bit of dignity. Every one of God’s creatures deserves a clean, ethical kill. Firing off random shots doesn’t sit well with me—not because I’m fond of coyotes, but because I believe in the ethics of hunting. Skill, responsibility, and respect for wildlife should guide us.

There’s definitely room to handle these situations with precision and care instead of relying on chance—especially if you plan to showcase it to the world.

That’s the kind of thing that could lead to laws in your world that you probably want to avoid.

I accept your disagreement; that’s fine. I’m not here to preach. I just wanted to gauge the situation. Seems like there are two camps here, and I respect that.

Thanks Paul, how we dispatch a creature, whatever that creature might be MATTERS!
Be selfish about it, the last thing we desire is more Govt. regulation. With regard to high capacity PB guns, my state is now worse than Cali. One of the primary reasons I enjoy the PCP guns is the lack of Govt. interference. No I'm not a felon, hell I'm an old boy scout.
Posting youtube videos of animals shot and suffering hurts all of us and is a blinking sign invitation to the hand wringing Karens and Kevins of the world. Oh we must protect the children or some such noise to justify their miserable existence. Just shut the heck up, please.

Thanks Ricklin, glad were on the same page.

After the job started it must be Finished . And……vermin killing is basically target practice………after you kill a coyote, do ya eat it. ?maybe take the hide? Rats? Jackrabbits or cottontails killed & not consumed considered wanton waste many places. Raccoons, woodchucks, squirrels. Not treated the same respect. I think most of us try to dispatch any quarry with a quick kill.

If you are ethical, you do not take the shot. Waiting a moment or three may present a better shot, or no shot at all.
That is how it should work. Yes, we all occasionally miss our mark, if that is happening often please shoot paper until such time that you can get the job done CLEANLY. No bleeding heart here, show some responsibility as we are all in this together. Please kill the vermin quickly and cleanly.
