Is It OK to Leave Mags Loaded?

I compromise a little. My go to "pesting" rifle is always at 1/3 to 1/2 magazine loaded. I try not to leave them fully loaded. Bear in mind that even if the magazine is completely unloaded, the spring remains in slight compression, so I figure some additional 1/3 loading from empty is a good compromise. Having at least some pellets in the magazine always ready to go is useful when the time comes.

I do the same for my personal and home defense powder burner magazines, loading them 1/2 full all the time, for years and years. They all still work fine.

Many years back, I bought a WW II German holster for my Browning Hi Power. It had a magazine in the magazine pouch. I pulled it out, it was "full" of ammo. We looked at the ammo, the head stamp on all of it proved to be military ammo. Dated 1943

Guess what, the magazine worked...perfectly..!

As I keep saying, "heat", both internal and external is what hurts springs. Sitting fully compressed (or extended for a extension spring), for long periods, will NOT...hurt them. I've tested many, many springs (both work and home), I do have an idea how they work.
