Is it possible to tune down .177 AF Talon for 10M?

I just bought this Talon second hand not too long ago. 95% of my shooting is 10M or less, so I am wondering why I even bought this beast

I am trying to "TAME" my Talon to be a 10M "basement BR shooter". I tried using the PW, but even on the lowest setting, it shoots hot. I have a older version Talon with an 18" .177 barrel with a DL Sumo. I have the spin loc, but not spin loc tank with the gauge. I also have the Co2 adapter, but if I didnt know better, it uses a condor tophat, that Co2 tophat hole is larger than the one on my HPA tank and spits out so much Co2 my Sumo gets fogged up and cold. I am using H&N 10.3g, those pellets still shoot hot for 10M using either tanks. Do I try a heavier .177 pellet first like a 13g? The HPA tank and Co2 tank calm down a little more if I put an o-ring behind the tophat, but then I get more flyers using the Co2, or the Talon is still too Hot using HPA. A micrometer tank is out of my budget for now. I am testing using a 13ci tank with the co2 adapter and it works, but the bottle reg is set for 850, I think it would be more accurate with lighter pellets but I have to buy them. I had Crosman premiers, but they were not all that great.

Do I try the heavier pellets?

Do I try using the washers from TT instead of O-rings and try a lighter pellet?

Do I start to clip the spring?

Do I Find a tophat that is more in line with the micrometer tank Tophat?

Do I Change out my barrel for a 12" barrel? (TT typically has the 12" .20 barrel for $53. I can afford that)

Do I stop trying to Tame the beast?

What should I do?

I'm no expert on the AF guns but I did own an Edge years ago. The guy that tuned it was Tony at Talon Tunes of Jacksonville Florida. 

I would look him up and ask his advise on this. If it can be done, I'm thinking Tony is your guy for solid advise.

It should automatically shoot slow if you run it on co2 or run an adjustable regulated bottle in place of the factory one or buy a bottle with a low flow valve from Tony. Just let him know what you want to do but I would just run a user friendly adjustable regulated bottle to restrict the flow and it will make it more consistant too. I made couple for some of mine with eBay paintball bottles some massive just to benchrest at lower speeds years ago. Several set at specific reg pressures all in the sweet spots for specific pellets.

I just had a wild hair idea. HUMA makes an inline adjustable regulator for bottle guns try finding one that threads into your bottle into the gun? You need to greatly restrict air flow and choke it. HUMA weren't even born when I was fooling around with Talons and Condors so I had to use regulated paintball bottles. Try yours if you want to lower the speed by experimenting using experimenting adding and removing washers for the regulator. Since yours is a 177 and you want 500fps with light pellets I would try 600psi to start. IIRC my lowest try was around 700psi and was doing around 650fps out of an unmodified stock 12" 177 Talon with 7.0gr pellets. Chrony it while shooting 7.0gr wadcutters such as RWS R10 lights or Basic or Hobby pellets to hit 500-550fps. Even the cheap Beeman Chinese Wadcutters and Hollowpoints shot well for me. Should do fine for yours since they all use Lothar Walther barrels. You should get HUNDREDS OF SHOTS.

Get a micrometer tank for it and then you can simply swap tanks when you want bigger power. 

You can also put a few o rings behind the top hat... 

can play with fill pressure and turning power way down...

regulator from Altaros will do the trick...

top hat with a restrictive insert.

Plenty of options to turn down power on these guns.

You need a top hat with a smaller opening. Talon Tunes probably offers one. The new valves on the Condor SS have a Ring Loc kit available from Air force to tune it to whatever power you want by changing the top hat.

If your tank will accept a ring-loc top hat I sugest getting it. Use the .07 diameter set the power wheel at 0. Should put you around 570 fps with 7.9g CPs Don't remember if it was the 18 or 24" barrel I was testing.

My Talon-P is set up as a .20 caliber with a 12" barrel. It shoots 15 9g JSBs at 825/850 fps with the .123 top hat. .20 barrels are usually on sale at Air Force

Hi everyone, thanks for all the suggestions. I just got off the phone with TT. They said if I am going on the cheap, use their shims, a little better than the o-rings. The Tophats are only for the CONDORS, not TALONS. The next best would be to get the Regulator, followed by getting a micrometered tank. If the shims dont work out, ill probably use a regged paintball tank with my co2 adapter. Of course, i will also try heavier pellets too.
