One reason I got into PCP air gun is that I am retired and shoot alot. Mostly at the sparrows that have invaded my barns and RV. So I buy the cheaper crosman 22 14.3 grain ultra magnums. They are a third of the cost of JSB or AA's and performed just about as well in my marauder F&T. But I always wash them otherwise I get a bad case of dirty finger. Then they get a little Silicone spraylube. I don't think it helps accuracy but it doesn't seem to hurt either and it satisfies my OCD.Thanks folks for the replies and all the good info. I will attend to barrel cleaning as needed, and will soon begin washing my pellets. I may even engage in a bit of pellet sorting and lubing. Being retired, one has time for these kinds of things. As I shoot my powder burners less these days and shoot air rifles a LOT, what time I might have spent doing precision reloading for powder burners I can now apply to fussing over little lead pellets.
I agree. I only have the one PCP and I have tried Marvel, Full synthetic two cycle, CLP, Pledge, and spray Silicone, none have affected accuracy in my rifle. However I do wash the pellets I use and I figure it doesn't hurt to put a little something back on them. I like the Silicone or pledge because they dry and I keep my fingers clean.Concerning barrel cleaning, I have not had a need for anything more than WD-40 for keeping my airgun barrels clean, I just spray it on the lead in area of my bore snake and make about two passes with it when needed. As for pellet lubes, have tried multiple products with mixed results and have settled on the use of Marvel mystery oil in one of my rifles that likes lubed pellets. Had purchased a spray bottle of Napiers pellet lube awhile back and although I have no way to confirm it other than color, smell and performance, I believe it to be nothing other than repackaged Marvel Mystery Oil. As to whether lubing improves accuracy, I believe it does on some barrels and doesn't on others, have experienced both cases. I am currently using lube on the JSB 18.13 grain pellets I shoot out of my Nova Liberty and though there is minimal improvement in accuracy, the number of shots I can make between cleanings has more than doubled before accuracy begins to fall off. I find this a plus for the small amount of time it takes to lube the pellets. This may explain the different experiences people have had when experimenting with lubes, let your rifle choose whether there is an advantage or not.
