Is my puppy going to be fine after this?

I found a bit of the shell of a box turtle in the yard the other day. I'm pretty sure my little rescue hound ate the rest. She loves it when I pest a squirrel and will grab them almost before they hit the ground. She hasn't eaten one yet but I'm sure she would if I didn't take it from her. She caught a rabbit once and hid it from me until she had eaten the ears. If I go fishing, she wants me to give her a fish. She's never eaten squirrel guts only because she's only a foot tall and I clean them in the kitchen sink. She jumps up trying to get them.

I worry about bones but guts would not have those. It's gross but it's something dogs do. She also eats plants and sometimes that makes her throw up but I don't think animals have ever upset her stomach.

Lol no I didn't shoot my dog. I just know squirrel carry plague sometimes. It sure was gross watching him.
So I shot a Grey squirrel yesterday and my puppy ate all the guts. I think he's probably fine but are there any diseases that I should be worried about? Thanks.
Your dog will be fine. Just be glad he/she didn't find a really rotten smelly carcass and role/rub it all over. They will do this by instinct, apparently to cover their own scent. The problem is that you may not know it until you pet them and find that stench all over you! (chuckle)

Having owned MANY dogs when I was married (we took in all sorts of strays) this happened to me more than a few times! LOL!

Both my cats (1 and 2 y old) are fantastic hunters, basement full with butchered remains almost every day. Over this summer the younger got into a fight with a squerelle and looks like a prey bite back. The front leg got some sort of fungus, the vet said some type that spreads to humans. The cat was inside quarantined for four weeks, healed well so my wife finally let her out. And the cat got into a big fight again this week :) but I didn't show to wife yet.

Ruff.... Ruff Howser. Hes a good dog..... When he feels like it. One thing hes got down pat is the get it part. The squirrel hits just hits the ground and hes nailed it, fast. He says he likes crushing there bones between his jaws..🤤.

Ya, he gets excited and wants to play keep a way but a little work on that he pretty much now brings it to my side.. hes a good little guy .

My buddies cat eats the brains only. Crow
My first cat was like that. Amazing how she would lure in a mother Mockingbird by laying flat on the gravel driveway under her (the bird) nest and take several peckings from the bird until all of a sudden, she (the cat) would jump up from that laying position and kill the bird. Then, ONLY eat the brain, leaving the rest of the carcass.

That was back in the late 1960s or early 1970s and I so wish I had access to video/movie film at that time! It was amazing! (smile)

Sable (my first cat's name) was an amazing cat! I have judged all subsequent cats I have owned by her. Only one even came close...

Sorry , should have explained. Not bird brains but squirrel brains. That’s my kind of cat. Crow

No problem. I never witnessed my first cat eating the brains of a tree rat, but I have no doubt she did or would have done that as well. You should have seen how she treated a border collie that entered the carriage barn where her litter of 8 kittens was! Never saw eyes so big as that pup when she pounced on him/her from the rafters of the carriage barn like a tiger on an elephant! I sort of felt bad for the sweet dog. It was only eating the cat food and wasn't interested in the kittens at all (as far as I could tell).

Once the dog was driven off, Sable dropped off of its back (about 20 feet outside of the barn) and calmly walked back to the carriage barn while licking to straighten out her fur which was still fluffed a bit... Just another day for my best cat ever! (smile)

Wish I had some pics... (heavy sigh)
