Tuning Is Thread Sealer necessary on...

I'm replacing the external regulator and would like to know if any sealer is necessary for the threads to the bottle and to the gun and if so, what type of sealer?

If there is a oring I would say you don't need thread sealer

Yes. O-rings both ends.

Looking at the old reg, there doesn't appear to be any sealant residue, but rather a little (grease?) on the thread to the bottle. Maybe oil? It wiped off easily. Very small amount.

O-rings should have light coat of 100% silicone grease so they seat & don't get cut.

I think OP meant internal reg. 

This is an external regulator for shooting while tethered & having full control and fast adjustments of pressure. Not just for air hog airguns.
Helps to find out what pressure works best harmonically, valve timing, etc. much easier than a internal reg that must be set up with tester and put back in airgun every time.

it's a Bottle regulator correct? use only silicone oil or grease on o-rings and threads, any other oil can combust..... you can use regular oil or grease on external moving parts such as hammer, hammer spring, cocking mechanism
