Is Your Spouse/Partner involved in the hobby?

This story starts with a visit to my local airgun shop, Trenier Outdoors in Sparta, Wisconsin. I was mainly there to just chat and catch up with the owner and see if he had anything interesting for sale. He brought out one of his own guns that he had had for several years and was ready to part with, a Daystate Red Wolf HP in .22. I had been eyeing these rifles for awhile on both the forum and Youtube and knew i wanted to go home with this beautiful piece! That was when he made me an offer I couldn't refuse and I was the proud owner of that used red wolf.
One problem down, then another comes to my mind, how am I going to tell my girlfriend about my impulse purchase? Then the idea hit me, this could be the rifle that gets her in to shooting with me. She had never done any type of shooting before but had very much expressed interest in coming with me to the range. I had wanted to take her for awhile but figured the air guns I brought with me might not be so easy to use for a first time shooter. I thought maybe this red wolf could be the ticket to getting her in to the hobby with me. So I mustered up the courage and brought the rifle to her with the idea that this would be hers for range use. Needless to say, I was shocked when she responded with giddiness and excitement at the mere idea of it!
When the day finally came to take her with, I gave her an overview of the rifle and controls, how to properly load it, use the safety, adjust the zoom and objective on the scope, and general range safety. We get to the range and I set up some spinner targets at 50 yards. after getting her comfortable on the bench and going over everything one last time, she loaded a slug, squeezed the trigger, and was in love with it. She did very well for her first time and was able to make the steel on the spinners ring many times that day, smiling the whole time. It is safe to say she is hooked and will probably be accompanying me a lot more in the future.

My question is... Is your significant other involved in the hobby with you? Did you get them into it? Would love to hear some stories about it, Thanks!

My wife does not partake in my airgun activities, yes she has sent a few pellets downrange. But no interest otherwise, which is fine by me. She and I ride a tandem bicycle together and do lots of other things… BUT! Just finished querying her and she’s willing to contrast my Atomic, Ghost and Pathfinder… Thank you for planting the seed… Good post @hesse_96🙏

My wife loves to shoot targets and plink objects. Her favorite is shooting pistols, rimfire, centerfire and PCP's. She also prefers the economical choice of pellets.

This spring/summer i'm going to purchase a sled so shooting rifles will be easier for her. She does like the Diana 48 but it's a heavy beast.

My wife grew up around hunting and fishing but never was involved. Her father was a big outdoors man says she never showed much interest.
Me, no hunters in our family, baseball was my passion. Move ahead 30 years and airguns was something my son and I could do together so she "allowed " us to play but never joined. Jump ahead 20ish more years and her nickname is now Bullseye Betty! We don't have the opportunity to get out a ton just yet but she does like my Delta Wolf! Dang, when is it my turn 😕 Love that she enjoys herself. Good times!

Good deal! My wife loves airguns, Smooth springers, pistols, field target , cans, varmints...... . It seems she does not like the noise of firearms & "airguns are great!".
Last tune up match before the World's at Roz's Hollow and just sitting around with her favorite pistol:

The only one that's ever been in the house she didn't shoot was a DAQ, just too loud.

While my wife has participated on the shooting range and is a pretty decent shot, it's not her thing.

She does whole heartedly support my airgun addiction, often encouraging me to get a rifle that I'm interested in.

Being the family accountant who takes caare of the paperwork, my wife knows my online airgun supplier (pusher?) well. There has been several occasions where airguns that i've been researching have suddenly/unexpectedly show up at the door. 😲

A couple of years ago my old FWB 100 10 meter SSP pistol needed servicing so my wife bought me a FWB P8x PCP as an anniversary gift.

You gotta love a woman like that - and I do! 🥰 We've been married for 50 years, I hope others are as lucky!

Cheers!

HW30S, my wife is petite so most other break barrels were little much for her. Its a break barrel as that was where I started my venture back into airguns. She doesn't show interest in any other airguns or PCPs. Says the HW30S is just perfect.
Funny. I was about to post something similar. My wife enjoys occasional plinking, but I don’t have a proper bench rest setup. She is petite and about the only airgun I have that is manageable is the Beeman R7 .177, which she does enjoy from time to time when the weather is nice.

To the OP question, I wouldn’t say my wife shares (or is involved in) the hobby with me, but she tolerates my adventures and will take a turn here and there. I have never really wanted an airgun pistol; however, now that I think about it, my wife would probably enjoy shooting one.

When we got together in the late 80s, my wife had never shot anything. She is a competitive type so when I introduced her to airguns, we had a lot of fun, plinking in the back yard and plinking while camping. When an ad came up in the paper (remember those?), I met with a group that started up FT in Az... around early 91. We shot FT for all these years and she won her share. We hunted together for a number of years as well... While down in Phx, together we likely killed thousands of wasps and flies... mostly with iron sights... Those days are pretty much gone- all scopes now... The last few years have been more about playing pickleball so she hasn't shot much with me but we still have a good time. Oddly enough, she would much rather shoot paper where I would much rather shoot objects...

My wife is a PB girl and has a pretty good collection. One day earlier this year, she had stated that she'd like to get better at shooting and ironically my Airacuda Max had just arrived via UPS. I informed her that airguns are an inexpensive  way to practice form and concentration. Now she can't get enough. She comes up with some cool targets and competitive games to keep things fresh and challenging.
Never boring....

Mines only involved to the point of telling me I have too many airguns and asking why I need more then 1..She does like metal detecting which we do on occasion, used to do alot more but both of our knees are about shot. Says I have too many metal detectors also.:)
My wife bought a $1800 Minelab detector (the FX of metal detectors) and then we had to spend a grip going to different locations for her to find out that she would rather use her old machine a Tesoro (the Brocock of detectors). I'm not the only one in my house that has an addiction, just the problem. 🙃
