It's things like this that will bring problem to all airgunners

Man, that is terrible. I'll surely add him and his family to my prayer list.

I taught high school for 30 years and had a student with a glass eye. Her brother, just playing around, shot her. She told me that one day, while eating supper with her family, the BB just fell out. But she still lost an eye.

And I can't believe I did this - I must have been a stupid child, for I remember having BB gun battles with other boys in the neighborhood in the woods behind the house (the rule was; no shooting at the head - like we were all good shots and those Daisy Red Ryders were that accurate), my folks didn't know I was doing this, else daddy would probably have kicked my behind - good. I guess the good Lord watched over us idiots, because I don't recall anyone getting hurt bad. I guess now it's paint balls being shot during "war games".

yes .. i always found it interesting how 'thousands' can die every year related to motor vehicles but its never the car .. bring a gun into the equation and the gun is the problem every time .. we have to remember our 'lords' care about us .. especially us being armed in any way .. and on and on .. .cancer kills millions every year but nope, cant find a cure for that nuh uh .. but big bad covid demon yep cure in 6 months .. go get you shot like an obedient serf and you better stay home and do nothing ....

Accidents happen regardless if a firearm or airgun. Really comes down to proper safety training and supervision. My 10 yr old has better range etiquette and safety practices than many people I see at the range.

Sad to hear about any accident but especially sad that it was preventable with proper training.

Tragic accident involving kids. Several solutions. Take away the BB guns. Stop having kids. Try to educate but realizing no solution is perfect so we live with it and hope it doesn’t happen in our neighborhood.
I tell my anti gun friends that there are problems for which there are no solutions. Gun violence being one of them. It’s part of America like it or not. I suspect that if statistics were available there are way more deadly “toys” then BB guns. Remember yard darts? Now that WAS stupid. I can see the kids in the neighborhood and one or two wise asses sharpening the points. There is a justifiable feeling to take all the risk of injury out of the world and especially for our children. Just can’t happen . How about baseball and even more foot ball. I wouldn’t want my kid playing foot ball but I’m not about to tell my friends that they have to do the same. Birth control or gun control. You pick

Praying that the young man pulls through.

I don't like the term "Gun violence". Guns have never harmed anyone on their own. Guns are a formed metal like many other items. It takes a human to use those items to harm another. I can't believe someone in this community would use such a term knowing and understanding this simple truth firsthand, but I know some watch manipulative channels that do not do fact checking and have agendas they promote regardless of this simple fact.

I thought the same thing after I read that today. Our airguns are WAY more deadly than a BB gun. Someone in So. California has been sniping @ cars on the freeways here for the last 4 days or so with a pellet gun! Just a matter of time before we'll be ON the radar, not under it. Pray for that kid & his family!

We are already on the radar, dont kid yourself for a second. Which is also why we need to continue our respectable and safety conscious image of responsible airgunners and speak out against actions, people and products that stain our reputations.

I wanted to add one more thing. My 7-year old grandson comes over and enjoys shooting my p-rod. That's when I get to also teach him gun safety - and I'm dang sure not going to go in my house and let him remain outside and shoot - if I go in, he goes in. He also has a 2 year old sister and she also needs to understand gun safety - she doesn't shoot yet, but she wants to.

Of course, it has a scope on it because they don't come with iron sights, thus he hasn't learned about sight pictures, things I know with my old BB gun. I wish there was an after market product that somehow could perform as iron sights on a p-rod, of course if would probably be a short sight radius.

Anyone ever hear of such a thing. Maybe I just need to get him a Daisy Red Ryder and keep it over here.

It happens all the time, and isn't new.. thankfully its usually accidents regarding bb guns that parents buy their kids and not high powered pellet guns, or we would have way more deaths! Part of the problem is parents, they dont teach their kids how dangerous the bb guns really are.. more of a buy it and then tell the kids "you cant use this unless we are with you" then they put it in a closet somewhere with the bbs. Guess what happens when the kids are home alone or parents are busy? they go get that bb gun and play with it, I'm sure we ALL did or could if we had the opportunity. I was in a hunting family so we were taught safety right away and the bb gun (daisy camo pump) was locked in the gun safe with the real guns... I think this really put in my mind at a young age that they are in fact weapons. I couldnt get to the bb gun, couldnt get in the safe, or I 100% would have been taking that thing out and shooting birds in the back yard and strolling around the neighborhood shooting cans and what not with friends.. thats what kids do. I dont think we would have shot each other, but an accident with it would definitely have been possible.

Any parents out there, dont think your kid is better than you were... kids are kids, they will lie to your face and say they wont touch it and then go play with it a month later when you let your guard down. Same kids that say they will never drink until 21 or try drugs, what is it now 70% of highschoolers admit to trying alcohol and 40% have tried controlled drugs/tobacco? And these are near adults who are a lot better decision makers than 5-14yr old. Odds are your kids are like most kids when you aren't around.. lock up the air guns. I am not saying most kids would shoot others with a bb gun, far from it, just that accidents do happen and kids are curious and still learning... Get two or more together and you have recipe for disaster.

We had the dull used ones but used to lay our hands out on the ground and flip the dart up about 3 feet in the air and try to have it stick in the ground between our fingers. Never got hurt with them, lots of red marks but nobody ever saw blood. We weren't allowed to have them anymore after someone in the neighborhood complained to our parents that we were throwing them into their yard and said it was too dangerous, so guess what we did?? we threw sticks up into the tree and got points if your stick got stuck, and you got bonus points if your stick knocked down another persons stick. Anyone see a flaw in this new game??? Neighbor girl took one right to the back of the head as she ran for hers and another fell from the tree tops, something like 18 staples and a huge trail of blood through the neighborhood. Like I said we never got hurt with the "dangerous" thing that we were being somewhat careful with, but we were still stupid enough to get someone hurt with the item laying in everyone's yard.... Point is, its the foolish actions and not the item that is at fault.

Suppose we could just lock all our kids indoors and make them play video games to be safe... oh wait that didn't work out well in the last 10-15 years now did it....

OK I should have said people using guns violence. How about automobile accident? I guess that’s unclear as well then.
Some times we loose the debate before it starts. I’ve heard people say GUNS DON’T KILL PEOPLE KILL”. If you want to have a civil discussion with some one who you think is willing to listen just make that statement and you will pretty much slam the door to any meaningful discussion. I’ve said this many times and I’ll say it again. There are people with extreme views on both sides of this debate about guns ( ownership to be correct) The people in the middle who really have no strong position one way or the other ( but hopefully open minds) are the ones we need to talk to. So I stand corrected but I am some what offended . My point is we have to address this discussion with others in a matter which helps the cause. Walking softly usually works better.

Here is something else to consider. I’m not saying that this is something that I necessarily would support but I think it’s an example of what we need to at least consider ( please don’t jump down my throat)

The majority of the public wants the legislators to solve this violence with guns (see i learn) problem. Frankly I don’t believe that it’s an issue which can be solved with more laws. But that’s my view not the majority’s. The legislators are being almost forced to do something . Would we not be better off letting them pass a bill outlawing the sale of “ assault weapons “ ? I’m suggesting this because don’t you think that as of today pretty much everyone who wants one HAS ONE. It would take the legislators off the hot seat at least for a time. I’m just being pragmatic. And yes I understand give an inch loose a yard but isn’t that pretty much the price we pay daily on most everything. I’ve talked about the people in the middle with no strong opinions. I tell you THEY see this from a different prospective. Maybe it’s time to give a little? Not suggesting this is a good solution but maybe just it’s the best we can get?
I believe if we don’t bend we are going to break. Many will see it differently and I understand that . It’s not a matter of what’s right or wrong it’s what might work better for the cause. I’d suggest that anyone who feels we’ve got to save the AR 15 best go buy one or two LOL I know many are doing just that.
