I’ve Not Spent a $ Yet.....

I guess I lied. I do have a Gamo Swarm in .177. Dang critter was on top of the pergola out back so I did an end around and somehow tagged him.

Ok, I’ve got birthday $$$ marked for a gun. (Celebrated my first anniversary of Medicare) I’ve been whittling choices down and think I need a Uragan. I left a message on Charlie’s clunky website to shoot me a text. I’ve looked at the HW100bp, Kalibrgun, Vulcan, Taipan, and Uragan King. I’m thinking I like a single bottle better. Until I hear, I’ll just defend myself with the Gamo springer. Talk me out of my thinking?!?

No can do. I think that the Uragan is an excellent choice. I too am thinking about adding a standard in .22 cal to the collection, or maybe even a compact.😉

What caliber are you looking at?

Just picked up an Uragan in .22 and think you'll be just fine with it.

Backtracking a bit as I'm late to this thread, but I've got more than my share of high end guns and the Daystates are top notch for sure. I've got a couple of older MCT Air wolf in .22 and .177 and have had zero issues with the electronics or anything else with them.

I’m pondering .22. I’m think 100 yards max but mostly just plinking and pesting. And then there’s all those different weight pellets and slugs. Maaaan! You guys make sooooo many choices. Then there’s a scope, and how to fill it just goes on and on. I’d really like to get it right the first time. I’m listening. And what about the noise level? Or do you call it music?

on the Uragan, I dont find the noise objectionable at all. If you do, you can put a silencer on it. I have the .22 version and was mainly for shot count and because I wanted to go a different route with .25.

As far as pellets... you can try out all the cool pellet shapes, weights and talk about ballistic coefficient and voodoo and whatever else... or you can just get a tin of JSB 18gr and be done with it. What I normally do is I will have cheap Crosman pellets in the tins around for general playing and then I shoot JSB's for 99% of everything else (with the exception of big bores, of course)

For scopes, you have the freedom of not being concerned with recoil as you would on a spring piston airgun so just pick whatever you like.

.....now filling the gun... that's a whole nuther thread.

I just visited with Charlie (Georgia Airguns). He’s crazy busy with geeks like me. He recommended the Uragan or Cricket 2 in .25 cal. I like the larger shot count of the Uragan and unless I’m convinced otherwise, I think this is the direction I’ll go. He also recommends filling with nitrogen; which makes sense to me due the absence of moisture. He said a chronograph is a must. I’m sucking up all the information like a sponge. Now I’ve got to parse it out.

Dont get a chronograph and dont get a rangefinder... you will find out that your 1000fps gun shooting 1 inch groups at 75 yards is actually a 700fps gun shooting 1 inch groups at 30 yards. 😂

A good compressor with a moisture trap will suffice. If you have Nitrogen available and can rent a tank, great.

As far as a chrony being a 'must'... I think in this case, I would disagree. If you are getting the gun from Charlie, it will be sorted already and is regulated. So if you treat it like a sore peter and dont screw with it, then you should have no need to chrony it. However... if you plan to change settings, or tinker or get other guns that may require work...then yes, you will need a chrony.

Short and Long barrel options would probably go to the FX M3 with compact and sniper barrel kits, Its extremely universal, amazing accuracy, Quick tune is a god send and versitle. not to mention powerful especially in the .22 version. (Haven't really ever shot .177) plus if you really want to get power one day you have the slug power kit options and hybrids or slugs.

I considered going the FX route but am really happy with my arsenal of 1377, 1322, Gamo Swarm and now the Uragan. We run up and down the runway on a golf cart and take out starlings. This gun makes me look like I’ve been at it a long time. I just spent a bunch on targets from an ETSY store. Ok, I’m hooked but the afternoon heat index is blowing through the triple digits. Plinking is over for this morning.
