FX Jekyll and Hyde... the FX M3..

If you going to shoot 300 yards without multiple wind flags at the target, on the gun and multiple locations in between then your gun will always be Mr Hyde. At 300 yard even 1 mph wind will change your POI.
This is something that’s paramount. And it’s not just for 300 yards. When I get done with a build, I will not judge the gun in its final phase if there is any wind. And that includes a breeze. I will do initial testing at 30 yards if there is a 1-3mph live wind. Not a phone app wind. But even at 50 yards, I pass no judgement on my work unless it’s absolutely calm. Only then, after all the calm condition testing is done for accuracy and consistency, then I will shoot in a breeze or light winds if I have to. Guys think just because they are shooting slugs that a slight breeze shouldn’t matter anymore. And that’s a mistake even at 50 yards.

Hows your tune, are you blowing extra air past the slug? How is your ES/SD numbers? When your reg pressure and hammer are not balanced this can give you consistent shots and then all of a sudden random and often in strings of irregular fps. I would back to 40 yards, get your ES/SD close to 10/2 and tune until you get hole in hole groups and then test at 100 yards.
At 50 yds i basically get one hole groups now... it actually gets very boring... as in, how many slugs do you want to put in the same hole.

My analogy....as per Powder burners...

Shooting groups at 100yds or even 200yds ( Powder burners ) tells you little on extended range performance .... i have seen rifles shoot 1/2 moa or less at 100yds then fail to group consistently at 500 or 1000yds.

Air guns... " Most " will easily achieve 1/4 or 1/2 moa at close distances of 50yds or such. Its when you push the distances out to 100yds + that you see if your "Tune" holds up.
Obviously as you "extend" the range many other factors start to creep in, but you should be able to get good results within reason.

The other day we had some clay birds set out at 500yds ...... it was a totally windless arvo.... it was possible to hit these 60% of the time with the M3...

Agree ..
and i usually ONLY evaluate accuracy when there is basically no wind..

And again..... i am well aware of what factor wind can play ... i have seen 750ga Amax Projectiles from my 50BMG being pushed off by 3-4mils at 2500mtrs in a "mild" breeze!!

Another thing I find interesting, especially with guys coming into this hobby with big P lists of how accomplished they are in powder burners is how gullible they are. I can understand a 20-30 year old believing everything he reads or sees as being the absolute unedited truth. But common sense and some shooting experience will tell you if a guy shoots enough shots at something, he will eventually hit it. Then show that video or write about it. My best gun is good to 285 yards. I can shred the bottom of a soda can with half a magazine. That makes for some impressive scope cam videos. But a week later I can’t hit a darn rabbit sitting a 135 yards. Not impressive scope cam footage. Which one do you think I post something about? These PCP guns can do some impressive stuff. But they can be fickle. As long as we don’t live in denial of the things that perplex us and talk about it, we will keep moving forward. I have a buddy who says his M3 compact is so impressive. It basically walks on water with the slug it likes best. Every time I shoot it, I’m not impressed. We obviously have different standards. And that’s another internet blurry line.

Or "sighters"...🫣 A couple is reasonable, but more sighters than transparently shown/stated or more sighters than "counted" shots and I get a lot less impressed.
