Jerked around on the classifies!

Not trying to insult you, but If you feel that you need to take your items elsewhere, go for it. Classified rules aren’t going to change, people are not going to change, and you ceasing to sell would be welcomed by any competing seller. I understand your frustration but in the greater scheme of things, no one really cares if you take your stuff off classifieds. You have now targeted yourself for abuse by small minded people who, seeing you as sensitive, will target every add you post with useless frivolity.

Because the interactions in the classified are hidden from the public people can and will do/say all kind of stuff and plainly waste sellers time.

Back in the day on the Yellow where interactions where public if you said "I'll take it " you where going to since everybody saw your post and you would look like an idiot otherwise,...dealing behind close doors will bring out the worst in people because they feel safe since they are hidden.

Having said that with the sheer volume of the AirgunNation classified I don't see how a open forum could work, it would be extremely busy but it would cut down tire kickers and idiots for sure because they would be exposed to all members to see who they are.

I feel your frustration! An "I'll take it" & backing out constitutes the breaking of a contract. There should be a "ding" on someone's reputation for doing it & expulsion if they do it enough. More work for administration but better for members if we knew who could be counted on making for a more secure atmosphere on the forum!

Lots of good transactions here but a few bad ones have been very frustrating. I hate when someone says they’ll “take it”, only to back out while I’m messaging others that it’s ”sold pending funds”, that really burns me.

Don’t mean to abscond with this thread but it is a story about phone scammers. I recently purchased a $60.00 per year phone app called RoboKiller. One part of this app is it ability to engage the scammer in conversation and waste their time and even better it get recorded. One of the first recordings was RK answering the phone as a secret military base. The commander on the phone was outraged and was interrogating the caller about how they got the secret number and at the same time getting in an argument with an apparent subordinate about having to report the phone call to higher ups and all the while continuing the interrogation of the caller. Also the subordinate was suppose to be working on call tracing. This went on for almost 10 minutes it was hilarious. This call along was worth the cost of the app.

I'll add a little more humor to the conversation. There's a comedian named Tom Mabe that does funny responses like that when a telemarketer calls his house. In this one he pretends to be a detective investigating a murder scene. Pretty tame, no 4-letter words, but absolutely hilarious-

Back on subject. Yeah, buyers can be a colossal pain in the rear. Airguns, firearms, classic cars, it doesn't matter. People can be hard to deal with, and there's no single easy solution to the problem. I just try to roll with the punches and not let it get to me.

Another guy that does this for a living. He's goes to great lengths to waste scammers time, haha.

In another life I moderated on a forum for totally unrelated hobby. Issue with open discussion in classifieds is that too many people have no hesitation being idiots and worse in public, especially on the internet.

Agree, however if you show yourself with idiotic practices on the classified here and everybody can see it you will lose much more then you gain, nobody will ever take you seriously and you be living on a desert,....Airgun forums are way smaller, compact and friendly then the majority of Hobby or even firearms forums, it's in the end a small community and if you lose respect there's no room to hide anymore.

Not following through or other sales frustrations aren’t the issue. Feedback should take care of that. My experience, also on a small interest forum.

Someone posts an item for sale.
Someone replies, “I’d love to have that.” (Note, not an offer)
Someone posts a critique of the item.
Someone replies “Price $$$ is way too high, I’ll give you $.” (Note, also not an offer.)
Someone says a similar item is currently listed on eBay.
Someone posts an off topic comment
Someone posts they have the same for sale and proceeds to highjack the OP’s listing.

Discussion in classifieds on the whole is detrimental, just generates more poo for moderators to clean up.

Once again I agree, as I mentioned in my first post that I cannot see a way to make it happen here for those exact reasons,....my point is still that it will expose idiots and that is a way to keep them in check.

At the same time I'm on Rimfire Central and the classified there has back and forth communications and the few times I've been on one I've never seen them get out of control.

The Yellow with the awful structure of that forum made it hard to follow conversations but it kept idiots at bay also because of the exposure.

People aren’t going to change unless they choose to do so on their own, they are who they are. As a forum if we don’t want people who do the variety of things listed above then those people should be

1. Restricted from accessing the classified and No PM’s for 90 days, if they do it again they are kicked out/banned
OR
2. Just kick them out if they are being real a holes

As frustrating as it is to have someone bargain and then back out of a deal, at the end of the day its their money, and their free choice to do so. The deal is never 'done' until both parties have completed the agreed upon exchange and are satisfied.

People change all the time, change their minds, change for the better, change for the worse...this thread shouldn't be about how to mitigate that as its a natural human behavior, this thread should be a medium for OP to vent his frustrations, and for him to receive feedback (ideally non-toxic..). JMO.

I think the frustration is they have no intention of purchasing the item.

Yeah, I recently had a member with a "WTB" ad. I contacted and stated the asking price, yet lowered it slightly to accommodate. "Buyer" said "I'll take it.", but I am busy in a competition tomorrow, so can't complete.
No problem, I can wait until you return.
Didn't hear from the "Buyer" for days and PM'd. He backed out. My assumption is, I saw that there was another member selling the same item for $5,00 cheaper than we agreed upon, so he went with that instead.
Since I wasn't advertising for the sale, I figured that I have no cause to get upset, but I believe that it wasn't right to state "I'll take it.", then back out.

Sadly that comes down to character or the lack thereof. Especially over $5 smh.

Getting sick of it. The classifieds need new rules.
1st- Don't talk a guy down on price and not take it.
2nd- Asking where to send $$ several times and not send it.
3rd- Don't say you will "Take it" and not pay.
Its getting to the point where I am about to yank all my stuff off here and never come back. I have been selling and buying stuff on here for years and it has changed for the worst. Quit wasting my time!
I am new to the forum and the rules . ***Moderator Edit: Do not circumvent the PM requirements***
