Tuning Joys of tuning - LGV edition

My LGV is super accurate and I want to start shooting it for WFTF. However, it's shooting 15 foot pounds right now, so time to turn it down a bit. There's a lack of drop in kits for the LGV, and I'm pretty happy with the stock guide and top hat, so I decided to order a new spring. I didn't want to bog down on wire sizes, so I just measured the stock spring and ordered a new spring with 3 less coils (from Vortek).Spring arrived and everything looks good, although the guides aren't quite as snug as they are on the stock spring.

I slapped the spring in and chronoed it. Still 15 foot pounds. I was expecting 11.5ish, so that's disappointing. I figured I must have measured the stock spring poorly or should have gone down a wire size or two. So I decided to collapse some coils. After a series of collapsing and chroning (x3), I finally got down to my target after collapsing 4 coils.

When I first replaced the spring, the new spring felt a little twangy. I noticed that it was a little loose in the piston, so I decided to sleeve the piston. I dove into my collection of give-away plastic cups and found one that was a perfect .5mm thick. Got it cut just right, spring is a tight fit, but it won't fit with the top hat on. Oh well, I made another sleeve from thinner plastic and everything fit fine.

So now it is shooting at 11.8 foot pounds, cocks really smooth and the shot cycle feels nice and mild. Tomorrow I'll do some shooting and see if it wants to go from the heavy pellets to the mid-weight pellets. Since I'll be clicking, I would prefer to go to 8.4 grains, but you can't tell the gun what pellets to shoot, you have to listen to what it wants. Hopefully it will like what I want it to like.

So there's a fun little story about how I spent my evening.
