Raptoring Vicariously
It inhales mightily (you can's say sv<#s) not having my own Raptor, but the next best thing is knowing someone that does.
First let me say, I've not yet made the decision to go with a Mini, Full Size, or order a "Goldilocks Custom" Raptor. I've allocated funds, but I'm stuck, as programmers would say, in an infinite loop. I keep going round and round in a circular decision with no apparent bad choices. I like small convenient sized airguns..Taipan Veteran and Edgun R5 .30 Standard are two that I've owned and love. So, until today, I was leaning toward the Mini, but after seeing, holding, and shooting the Full Size Raptor that my buddy Scott recieved last Monday...well, I'm back into the circular decision mode.
Not that the "stock" Raptor isn't a total looker, just saying that a great thing can get even beter.
From the Magpul UBR adjustable stock, Hogue Grip, Atlas BiPod, the Delta Stryker HD 4.5-30x56 FFP Glass, to custom paint on the shroud, Scott really knows how to dress his airguns. And yes..I am jealous..LOL..especially of the Delta glass. Man! It just takes the meaning of "crisp" to a whole new level.
I'd give you the rundown on how it shoots, but we just stood around drooling and changing diapers. We ran through an entire box of Depends. LOL. JK. At least about the Depends.
I'm sure as the .25 TJ barrel settles in, the groups will get *much* tighter, but both of us were able to get hole-in-hole groups for 4 out of 5 shots at 35yds with wind. At the current tune it seemed to like the 25.4gr JSB at ~928fps over the NSA 33.5gr and 34gr JSB Heavys at ~800. I think if the velocity were bumped to a similar level for the 34s as the 25.4s were shot, the groups would have tightened up.
Did I mention that it was really pretty darn quiet? Definitely back yard friendly at the current power setting..though you'd need to have a solid pellet trap. Can't wait to see how it does when Scott gets it cranked-up.
