JSB RS or AA 7.3 out of a P1/HW45?

H&N Finale Match proved the most accurate I ever shot. Hobby are also accurate, suggesting the gun prefers tight ish Wadcutters.

I haven't tried these two yet. The only wadcutters I've tried are Creedmore Match Pellets made by Vogel here in the USA. They are .53 grams/8.179 grains.

Thanks for replying, I'll be trying some different pellets soon.

I since spoke to a shooting buddy who is marksman with a HW45, his gun tuned by me using the aforementioned method I recommend.

He mentioned good results with AA like what you have found and the very similar Falcon pellet I use in my tuned 53. Also giving good penetration on close range vermin.

JSB are virtually the same pellets as above but are not quite to the same standard, with a marginally higher variation, compared to the expensive pellets above.

Stick with the AA being his recommendation and maybe try the Finale if you want to do some real precision card shooting...cleaner card holes with wadcutters of course but no real advantage for the type of shooting you are doing.

Steveoo,

So far I have noticed that my Weihrauch springer pistols (HW45 and P1 variants) are not that pellet fussy, which is a great attribute.

JSB Express 7.9,AA Express 7.87, JSB Straton, Creedmore Match Pellets (Vogel) 8.179 grain all are accurate. I've also tried Crosman Premier Lights 7.9 grains and while they were "plinkworthy" the less than harmonious shot cycle and dramatic muzzle displacement made me put them away and I haven't used them since.

Indeed the AA 7.87 are quality pellets. They aren't cheap but quality never is. Or can quality be cheap? Seems many speak positive about RWS Hobby/Basics. 7 grains. For close range (10-13?) target and resettable shooting this may be a good pellet to try. Curious to know how they'd perform on the farther targets. I'll just have to try that. Will try the JSB 7.3s as well also.

Thanks again bud, appreciate your thoughts on this. Speaking of clean holes, while this target paper isn't the best quality the Creedmore Match Pellets did a decent job.

You are producing as good a group with your creedmores as i can with Finale, or Falcon in my modified LP53 and you must be one of the finest shots of a 45 ....nice shooting and highlights what can be done if one learns to shoot a gun, learns what pellets it likes, and understands its foibles.

After some digging I found out that AA pellets are manufactured by JSB, being a similar die used for the JSB Express but Air Arms insisting that JSB use an isolated die not used for the more mass produced JSB, which translates to near perfect variation and hence the higher cost.

Hobby develop high vel in 45s owing to being quite a tight fit but an excess of pressure available. The 45 barrel being quite short in length, lets go of looser pellets before the cycle is complete.

My effort at your 12 metres but not supported, shot with double hand combat grip approx 3/4 inch but first 3 shots went through same hole top right of group. Disappointed with that one at the bottom of the group, my last shot and was tiring. There are 10 shots in that group.

Velocity is 517 fps avg with 7.87 grains. Its dropped several rats.

Steveoo,

Looks like we use similar targets (whatever is available😉). Very tidy shooting, and 12 meters is farther out than my 12 yards. I imagine your pistol balances well in the hand but punished any inconsistencies in the grip pressure/hold technique. Love it😃. The rats would beg to differ.
