JTS Airacuda Standard .22

I got the privilege to be a tester on the JTS Airacuda. I was asked what specific model and caliber I would like and I ended up going with a .22 Standard. Haven't shot anything more than a .22 in years now and have zero interest in .25. I also went with the Standard which is not regulated and has a TP adjustment knob on the side.

Gun arrived and was impressed with how it came. Hugged in a fitted black styrofoamish material. Same as like you get from pellet tins ordered from PA, AGD, or UA.

Comes with 2 mags and an assortment of orings for the gun. No manual came with mine, not sure if the production ones will come with one or not. 3000 psi fill guns. Mine has a gauge measured in bar but the production ones will be in PSI.

Gun sits at 42" and 7lbs 1oz. I've gotten used to my short Evol Mini but for a longer gun it feels well off hand.

There's not a piece of plastic on the whole gun that I've found. Everything is metal and seems to be very well built. Even the baffles are all metal. The machining is very nice for a gun of this price point and even more so. Metal mags big plus. The ball detent holding it in is a nice touch on a gun of this price point also. Cocking was shocking on how light and smooth it was.

Trigger out the box seemed heavy and mushy. Noticed it was adjustable and took it apart and saw how it worked. Very easy to get it adjusted to be very light with a crisp reliable break. Also cool to see the sear engagement with the side on so can see where to adjust to get it to your liking.

The stock looks to be a walnut which is nice however I'm not a huge wood guy. A synthetic would be nice not sure if that's an option in the future at all or not but just personal preference is all. Comb sits a little low for my preference also. Not bad as I've had much worse but I can add something to make it where I prefer easily. Stock is pretty thin definitely more of a hunting stock. The wrist of the stock seems on the small side and I prefer guns with a larger and more vertical grip.

Power levels that I saw at 2800psi went as follows.

5 detents so going to call 5 the MAX setting and 1 is MIN. Done with 16gr JSBs

5: 1030fps
4: 980fps
3: 805fps
2: 510fps
1: 410fps

Pretty good spread on power levels. I'm thinking on using it as a lower power gun in the barn so likely power 2 and maybe throw a red dot on it. The TP knob is big in my book and something that really drew me to the Standard over the Max. Super crisp with no play in it and perfectly repeatable.

Besides the ping (which I don't mind) it's a very quiet gun really impressed. I was notified that the production ones will have a depinger. But see no need to have an extra LDC on it.

I haven't done full shot strings as I no longer have my nice Chrono that connected to my phone and I simply don't have the time to try to write down everything after every shot. At least not at this time. Will do some later on I'm sure but not now. Based on what I was seeing though was very consistent shot to shot and seemed to be in a good range on a bell curve as it definitely wasn't a Korean cliff or really low for the first shots.

Accuracy testing I'm still working out. I only have my EVOL Mini anymore and it eats JSBs so that's all I have. So far what I'm seeing is really really good. 2 5 shot groups at 37yds on power 3 on top then backed up to 45yds and 2 5 shot groups on the bottom. That'd be 9/10 under a dime at 45yds and I can't complain! Need to test CPHPs in it and I do also have NSA 20.2gr slugs I should try through it.

Will be updating this as I go and have time. Really gotta say though there was a lot of thought put into this gun for a $320 price point.

I agree with your conclusions, I had the Standaqrd in .25 for what 9-10 months now ?
the gun never had a single problem, has good power, a nice flat curve, the power adjuster works well, it's slim and light which make it a pleasure to carry and reminds me of a rimfire.

I think people will be super impressed by the Standard and MAX, great bang for the buck.

Dairyboy,
Nice to hear from you, very good review. Been pushing the Airacuda to all newbies who ask about a "starter" PCP. Think it outshines the (wood-stock) Avenger, except for those who must have the external adjust. Closest competitor is the DAR (Generation 3) but the extra gauge and adjustable stock seals the deal. With four .25s, the last thing I need is another, but at $420 for the MAX, just might have to. Hope a synthetic stock and .30 version are not far off. WM

Yeah it's quite a nice gun. I'd say for someone looking for a beginner gun that doesn't want to mess with anything I'd recommend either. Maybe the Max if they don't want to mess with bell curves but really a nice gun.

Good write up, it really seems to be a great value. Hope that it does well in the market. Loved the picture with the child’s trikes and muck boot in it… be well @Dairyboy, aka dairy dad…
Thanks man! Yeah the garage was messy but has since been cleaned but yeah not a boy anymore that's for sure 2 little girls and 30yrs old in a few months lol. Love it though

Thanks WM! Yeah I think this one as a starter gun is going to be super hard to beat. I've had the avenger and while it's a very good gun comparably just feels very cheap. However the external adjustments are nice. I would also like the synthetic just personal preference but not sure that's in the plans at all or not. A .30 I'm sure could be doable in the standard but not sure on the Max. Would be interesting.

I'm a noob, what is the difference between the adjustable power on this rifle and the adjustable regulator on e.g. the AV Avenger?
The adjustable power here is simply a Transfer port adjuster. It decides how much air you let get to the pellet without changing any pressure or spring tension. They got pluses and minuses compared to a regulated gun.

Wow that's a nice variance with the power adjuster!

Seems like it would be really useful for different distances

Has anyone tried mounting an additional PIC rail for auxiliary light and/or bipod on the wood stock?

I have quite a few squirrels, possums, nutria, and skunks in the area, so I have the feeling she'll be getting a regular workout.

So far everyone I've let hand the gun seems to be falling in love with it, especially my 14 year old grandson and his mom.

I've had the Airacuda Standard for about a month now... At 69, I still have no real issue pumping this beauty, but I doubt the ladies in my family wanto do it, so I'll likely be buying an HPA compressor in the near future.

Hello I just ordered the standard in 22 cal. I'm in Florida's Capital area's. I have been air gun shooting for at least 63 years now. I started off with a Benjamin pump shooting lead bb's in the basement of a home in Michigan. Quite a few years later 1976ish I purchased my first break barrel 177 cal Webley Scott and was doing head shots on lizards in South Florida in my tiny home lot. Also a crow, sand crabs and pigions , tree rats and ugly non native ducks head shot ect. The I purchased a Winchester 1000 a hard shooting 177 in north florida it had a really nasty trigger and a great main spring.. that now resides in my Webley. Then impressed with the spring made by Hatsan I purchased my Hatsan 135 22 caliber that eliminated over 400 tree rats in my backyard. Flea and tick problems were eliminated in my 5 dachshunds. When the hounds get fleas and tick it's time for pest shooting here. I loved all the videos on the standard version in both calibers. With the Hatsan 70 yard shots were done with ease even out to 100 yards were manageable. I figure that the Airacuda an shooting any of the 22 caliber pellets at 900 to 1000 fps it should out preform most any 22 cal air rifle at most any price range.

Oh man haha the Daisy Winchester 1000. I learned shooting on one of those. Horrific trigger but I killed many many birds in my youth with it.

I've owned many high end PCPs and honestly I'm very impressed with the Airacuda. Been shooting it lately and it does very well with NSA 17.5gr slugs on max, then CPHP on level 3 is fantastic also. Shoots JSBs like a champ also.
