JTS JTS’ FX Wildcat with plenum over barrel + their version of the FX King at Shot Show 2024 (they beat FX by putting a plenum over barrel in a bullpup)

The bullpup is called the thunderlance…pretty slick with the plenum over barrel! Plus it’s got a cocking mechanism that looks to be unique.

The FX King copy looks promising as well…plenum over barrel with this one too. If it is as accurate as the JTS Airacuda…oh boy...slugs are going to be fun.

For the record, still a FX fan.

just wondering what everyone is thinking about shrouds.. so from my experience I think the reason why a gun with the shroud is quiet is only because it extends past the end of the barrel and sort of works like a moderator.. I don't think any noise actually comes through the side of the barrel.. what do you all think?
second question is what is the overall opinion of the air tube or pelenium, depending on what brand, do you think it will be more or less likely to leak? I'm not sure if the barrel and shroud expand and contract at the same rate during Temp changes..
I think it is a great idea to have it around the barrel, would really stiffen up the barrel, plus more air storage.. would be nice if it was combined with a air tank in the but stock, just thinking about more air and possibly more balanced.

maybe this thread is dead? just wondering what you all think about the various types of shrouds..
Yes you’re right about the shroud just being extra space over a barrel. Some however have baffles that make it even quieter. Yes plenum over barrel is probably the next phase in PCP tech advancement; you get a more rigid system and no it’s not more likely to leak any less than any other o-ring on the gun.

I guess my question about leaking is not so much of the seals.. but more if due to temperature changes, whether it's the weather or refilling or whatever, if the barrel expands and contracts at the same rate as the shroud/air tube.. just thinking about movement since our current airguns don't have a tube inside of tube arrangement..

Well we’ll find out soon enough

so I'm trying to keep track of the air tube over the barrel.. there's of course FX Drs, and now the JTS.. seems like I saw another brand doing the same thing?
anyone know??
for the record, I think the FX Drs pro would look better in the next step down in the wood stock. 😊

Air over barrel...
Certainly seems like a new trend in airguns moving forward.

Fx has the Panthera, King, Dynamic, and DRS variants.
JTS has the Stealth Hawk, Thunder Lance, and Shylock.
Barra has the 250Z

Most use the plenum over barrel.
DRS utilizes the reservoir over barrel.
Stealth Hawk uses BOTH plenum AND reservoir over barrel.

It will be interesting to watch each version of technology, and see how well they all perform as far as consistant accuracy.

The new 2024 Barra 250-Z is the most beautiful bolt-action one I've seen yet, perhaps the best looking IMHO of any PCP.
just happened to be looking at the Barra site and they have rifle barrel kits for 177&22 Schofield and a matching lever action for the same cartridge.. and I was shocked to see they had a complete rebuild kit for the Schofield.. I think it was only $5 and well it makes me think they are a better company than umarex, hatsan and several others that make it hard to get parts..
I haven't handled a Schofield, I prefer the Colt SAA single six as that is my favorite powder gun and I love lever action and I don't remember Barra a few years ago, so seems like they are starting out more friendly to customers

what does the Barra 250-Z have? any idea when it's going to be available? I was thinking it was air tube over the barrel??
what is the opinion on the pelenium over the barrel, seems like it would be a oversized one? does it give it more shots like a larger air tube or just more power and less shots??

I wonder what will be available first and what order they will start making them.. the Barra 250-Z, JTS and the FX Drs pro.. although I like the wood stock one it appears that the only FX Drs that is made for a lot of power with slugs is the FX Drs pro..
then there's the hatsan zelos.. I can't find any specifications on it like dimensions, just interested since it might be a standard size pistol instead of a huge monstrosity..

The Barra and JTS are prototypes at this point, and not yet in production, let alone available to purchase.
Im sure those 2 companies are watching FX's DRS release, like a ..... "Stealth Hawk" !
I dont see it as rocket science, or anything too earth breaking....Just different. Hopefully better, and a more consistant POI. Time will tell.
I assume that plenum sizes will remain somewhat typical and balanced....Too large would be wasteful, and too small would be anemic. Nothing new.
I would expect fewer shots per fill, as opposed to a large bottle fed gun...Again, nothing new.
The trade off is a lighter, leaner package....The DRS only weighs something like 4.9 pounds.
Im very interested in how this new design technology plays out with consistant accuracy.
Consistant accuracy is where things MIGHT get different???
Im certain we will see revisions along the way, especially with reguard to which design is best...POB, ROB, or P&ROB .
Perhaps all 3 designs will stand the test of time and succeed?
My plan is to sit back, watch history being made, and hope that we end up with a extremely stable barrel, that provides us all with consistant accuracy, right out of the box, like never before!
Only time will tell.
