Thankfully for seven hearty competitors that braved the weather forecast, the heat index neither lived up to the match date, nor the forecast for our July 1 BRS match. However the wind conditions DID live up to their evil reputation on the BRS range, to foil some shooters' visions of grandeur. Certainly MINE!
Although much of the match was shot in light, variable winds, those winds seemed to be reversing directions faster than human eyes, minds, and trigger-fingers could react; key word- HUMAN. Hence, there was a lot of missing just fractions of a millimeter off both the front and ass-ends of those maddening LITTLE animal silhouettes! But as the match wore on the winds picked up. That is, until the last bank of the day when the wind lay to virtually nothingness. No surprise the Match Winners dealt with the conditions like the champs they are to monopolize results in the Slug, 80 Foot Pound Pellet, and 35 Foot Pound Pellet classes.
Also no surprise(s) that slugs posted the highest score of the day, through Derrick Wall's .25 AGT Uragan 2, shooting 49.5 grain Altoros C-N-C TURNED SLUGS 900 FPS, and topped with an Athlon Midas Tac scope. Matter of fact Derrick's awesome 36/40 score was the same as the earlier rimfire Match Winner posted... in much better wind conditions! Since there were only two Slug Class shooters there was no Match Winner award; however Derrick did nab two ten-in-a-row hat-pin awards for cleaning the chickens and pigs. Awesome shooting DW!
First-time BRS shooter Scotty Haslam denied Derrick's attempt to win all three classes by posting an awesome 30/40 score in 100 Foot Pound Pellet Class with his Falcon-scoped .25 RAW TM1000, shooting 34 grain JSBs. That's a great score with pellets in the tricky winds we had. Scotty won a Match Winner and a ten-in-a-row pig hat-pin for his fine shooting. I suspect SH's first BRS match might not be his last.
Derrick came second in the 100 FP class with an excellent 28/40, posted with an Athlon-scoped .30 Kalibrgun Cricket 2 Tac shooting 56 grain Zan pellets 870 FPS. If One looks close enough (at bold print) One might notice a recurring theme in DW's chosen poison. Being an amateur sooth-sayer, I predict a trend here. BTW, Derrick pocketed another ten-in-a-row chicken pin for his 100 FP Pellet efforts.
In Red-Headed Stepchild Class... I mean, 35 Foot Pound Pellet Class, Derrick again demonstrated his superior wind-doping luck... I mean, wind-doping skills. His 27/40 score, posted with a .22 Taipan Mutant shooting 18.13 grain JSBs 900 FPS is akin to a 55 yard field-goal in similar, TRICKY wind conditions.
Derrick's a mutant. OOPS... correction- Derrick's Mutant is topped with a Bushnell Nitro scope. He nabbed another Match Winner hat-pin in 35 FP Pellet Class as a mutant... correction- WITH his Mutant.
Jim Martin was second in 35 PF Class with an excellent 24/40 score. Jim shot an Athlon-scoped .22 Daystate Safari firing 18 grain FX pellets 900 FPS. Good shooting, Jim.
Weather permitting, the next scheduled TEXtreme Sports competition will be an AAFTA style field target rifle match at Ranchito Robinson on the FIRST SATURDAY of August, the 5th. Shooters interested in also shooting a pistol match that weekend should let me know, and stipulate their preference for either an AAFTA style pistol match, or Extreme FT pistol match. Hope to see Y'all then.
Happy Shooting,
Ron & Maggyy
