Jumping to conclusions...

I responded to an ad in the classifieds. There was great communication with the other party and a deal to trade was agreed upon. We provided each other with shipping addresses and I printed a label with tracking info and provided it to them.
Instant radio silence, nada, nothing. I was already out the shipping cost even if I never heard from them again. I had not dealt with this person before but was already beginning to feel glad I hadn't actually dropped off my package. I sent a few more PMs with no response. Oh well I am just out the shipping and I have realized not everyone follows through on their end.

Fast forward almost two weeks and I get a response. There was a completely unexpected death of an immediate family member. Their life had just changed forever.
I immediately performed an internal inventory of all of my own judgements and recognized just how petty my concerns were. I am reminded how blessed we are to have health and time with our loved ones.

I am sorry not only for their loss but also for my judgements and any pressure I may have added to their circumstances.

Lewis- I sort of had the same experience. I bought a brand new gun from a guy who just unboxed it for the pics to put in the classifieds. He told me he had upgraded to a 580cc bottle for the gun, and he would contact the vendor and inform them of me as the new owner, and when the new 580 bottles came in they would ship it to me in exchange for the 480cc that came with the gun. All the seller asked of me was to kindly please be honest and return the 480cc bottle that came with the gun back to the vendor. I told him for sure I’d do that.

So this upgrade was a part of the selling price which I gladly paid for when I bought the gun.

I asked why he was selling it and he said he got diagnosed with throat cancer and was concerned about possibly leaving his wife with a mess of airguns. At the time he had just started undergoing chemo, and he sounded very hopeful he’d come out of this all well and good.

A month had gone by and I never heard from the vendor. I finally called and told the whole story and asked if that seller had contacted them to make the arrangements about sending me the upgraded bottle.

The vendor said they knew nothing of any of that, and told me that seller contacted them and asked for all his $$ back on any outstanding back orders, including the bottle upgrade. They suggested I contact the seller to find out why he didn’t make those arrangements, cause they couldn’t help me any further. I even showed them copies of the original receipt of purchase, which clearly showed the bottle upgrade being paid for, but then they turned around and showed me a copy they sent the seller showing the upgrade refund back to him.

So I did text him, and the text back was from his wife and she said she had full control over his phone as he was under hospice care. She asked if her husband owed me for anything, as she said her husband sold a lot of things in the past few weeks. If he did owe me s something, all she asked was to give her a few weeks after she settles down from the chaos that comes with a funeral to make things good with me.
I replied back that he didn’t owe me anything, nothing at all, and to pass on my blessings to him

Long story short, I paid for the upgraded bottle myself and the vendor was very nice to even offer me a discount, which they were not obligated to do.

There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about that seller when I pick that gun up. I’ll never sell it, just for that reason alone. It’s not my favorite one in my Arsenal, but I treasure it like as if it were.

Life is truly short.
