Just For Fun

Speaking of Robert Shaw: he sang a song that notably appeared in the 1975 film Jaws. It was also sung in the 2003 film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, based on the O'Brian books. Robert Shaw, the actor who sang the tune in Jaws, also sang it years earlier in a 1956 episode of the television show The Buccaneers. Look it up on YouTube, fascinating to see the years go by and his devilish smile never changed

I have a neighbor whose got a well manicured pond that’s about two acres in size. I was told to go visit him as his pond is stocked not only with 3’ long catfish, but beautiful koi fish as well.

When I asked how he kept his pond so weed and algae free he says part of it was to aerate it, so while standing out on his covered dock that went out to the water about 12’, I saw him flip a switch that started the water aerating bubbles at like 8 locations. He had a whole slew of timers, controllers, switches, all for this pond.

Then he opened up a steel garbage can full of large chunks of koi food pellets and threw them into the pond. Afterwards he started kicking the side rails of the dock. I asked what he was doing that for and he replied the fish know that sound as feeding time.

All of a sudden the water started swooshing around. It was too dark to make out if the fish were close. He nudged me and pointed while excitedly saying “here they come!! Look! Look!”

So I arched forward on the railing, looking closely, and all of a sudden this life like shark the size of jaws comes up towards me, jaws wide open. I got caught up in a stupid Kung fu position while holding back from crapping my shorts. We had a good laugh.

So he shows me his set up- when he flips on the aeration switch, the areration pump not only bubbles up the water but it fills up this rubber, hollow shark that’s tucked underneath his dock under water. The shark has a steel band around its mid torso that a steel pipe is welded to, and the other end of this long pipe is on a swivel.

Just like a trigger sear the pipe has a catch that resets itself when the shark deflates and sinks back under water. When I took my wife and son over there to “see his beautiful koi” I watched how he released the catch using a sprinkler valve solenoid on a switch. So now this buldged out shark full of air comes hurling out of the water.

Rumor has it America’s funniest videos has been out to his place, lol

Edit- I forgot to mention when I asked where he got this shark, he said he bought it a long time ago from some place that sold old movie props. This thing was so life like it would not surprise me to find out it was used somewhere in a Jaws scene

Jaws is my favorite movie of all time! I watch it whenever it is on TV and have seen it at least 50 times. Exploding SCBA tank to the mouth got the job done.
Good job! I wish I had some sort of prize to present you but I don’t. I tried getting a Great White tank as a prize from Joe B. but he didn’t go for it.

The middle 10 or so minutes of the movie is one of the best sections of this and many movies.
That is, the ten minutes or so when they are comparing scars and hearing about the Indianapolis sinking. While not 100% accurate information, it's still a great 10 minutes.

Definitely, a high point in the movie. Amazing how good this movie can be forgotten about when the sequel’s don’t even come close.
