Just My Experience -FT Fairless Hills, PA-Sunday May 15, 2022

This was my just my second Field Target event that I have ever attended and it did not disappoint! I arrived early and helped with getting the course ready and getting the lay of the land. It was held on an existing/shared archery course in the woods. After things were set up we started taking some practice shots and making sure we were zeroed in. Slowly people stated to roll in seemed like a mix of guys and girls that appeared to be new to the Feild Target experience like myself and guys that have been doing it for years. Soon it was time to get signed up! All that took was filling out a little info and handing over a small amount of money for a large amount of fun! Next there was a short safety meeting and you found out who you were shooting with and what lane you be starting at. Everyone starts at a different lane so that your not all jammed up. I believe this is called a shotgun start? I was gonna be shooting with Tom and he was shooting a Thomas. I would be shooting my Dreamline and we were starting in lane one.
Lanes 1 thru 8 were all along a two tracker trail with 6 lanes on one side and 2 towards the lake. Lanes 9 and 10 were back towards sign up, but still in the woods. It would be 10 lanes with 3 targets in each lane with one off hand or standing lane 5. Lanes 1 thru 4, I was doing pretty good! In fact, I think I was one point ahead of Mr. Thomas. Then came lane 5, and well you can just forget about that one point lead. Lane 5 basically told me to come back when you’ve at least tried to practice. Scoring 0 out of 6 points in no way could have ruined my day, it just makes me think about how to get better.
Then I think it was lane 7, I got all set up and shot my first near target and bent down to pull the string back to reset it and the string was under the foot of my bipod. Instead of taking the time to pull it out from under the foot I was able to just pull on it and the target reset. Cool! Took my second shot and the target didn’t go down because the string was still being pulled tight by my bipod! Uuuggghh! Even something like this happening isn’t gonna come close to crashing my day! The only other mishap I had was a point blank shot that was right in my crosshairs, no hold over and I think I thought I was just gonna automatically make it, and I missed. Disappointed, I knew I would just have to learn from these mistakes. Overall my score increased from a 34 at my first event to a 49 at this one.
The main reason I am trying to write this, i to try and tell other people what is like to go to a Field Target match. I really wish I would have picked up a .177 a long time ago and done this. Not to mention that the turnouts at both of these events I went to, Palmyra and this one, seemed to be on the low side. In my area of PA I can’t believe that more people wouldn’t come to an airgun event this fun. From what we were told they are scheduled to have an airgun event on the third Sunday of every month. Next month is gonna be a silhouette match and the following month a Field Target. Here are some pics.

Great write up Trevor. I had almost as much fun as you did. I ended up watching my wife shoot her second match with her 'old' Red Wolf as the Delta Wolf had a hissy fit. She managed hitting 33 targets, not bad for someone with less than a tin of pellets under her belt.

As for Fairless Hills, great people and a wonderful course - I highly recommend going there for the next shoot - we will.
