Tuning Just returned my new Venturi Air Avenger For Exchange

I've had my .22 AVA for a month. I just received, from a friend here on AGA, a chronometer.

I've noticed two things:

  1. No matter where I set the hammer spring the fps remain the same and that's with the regulator set anywhere between 1400 and 2000

  2. I think I'm experiencing regulator creep. As I begin shooting/testing the regulator loses a couple of hundred pounds. Then it takes a while for it to recover, but only back to about 50-100 pounds below my original setting.

    [/LIST=1]

I've followed all the correct steps for tuning.

to the OP: I experienced something somewhat similar (HS tension doesn't seem to cause as much of an FPS change as one might expect). I don't know enough to be able to say all the exact causes of this....so I will leave that alone (but I believe a less than ideal match up between hammer weight, and spring weight/tension/rate do play a part). However, I did take my reg apart and performed some polishing and lubing of the belleville washers. This helped a lot with the creep. I never did "fix" the seal or the seat. I did create a thread on here, with pictures, when I was messing with it.

Increasing reg pressure when the gun is pressurized is stated as ok in the owner's manual. Decreasing reg pressure when the gun is pressurized will damage the seal and/or seat.

You took the reg apart on an AVA? Difficult? What seal and seat fix are you referring to? Is that an issue with the rifle?

I am NOT a gunsmith. But I do have some mechanical ability in other applications. Some of it transfers over.

Here's the thread: https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/avenger-regulator-newbie-questions/

I don't remember, and I didn't re-read. But one of the o-rings is impossible to find (and AV is useless in being able to supply us with parts), so there is a substitute that is used for it. It may, or may not be mentioned in that thread. I found the o-ring info on GTA though. And I didn't make a how-to on belleville polishing either....as I'm not sure I did it correctly.
