Keep or Return Benjamin Fortitude from PA?

The three issues I hear discussed on this forum are:

1. Trigger pull is stiff. Mine is acceptable to me and it's and easy mod if I want it lighter.

2. Cocking pull is stout. Mine is in this league. After 40 shots my right hand hurts.

3. PCP chamber leak. Mine seems to leak from 3000 psi to 2500 psi overnight without being used.

The grouping on mine at 10 yards is fine. Will the pressure leak decrease after use and seals setting in? I have not heard of any mods to reduce the cocking pull which seems a common problem.

I am still in the 30 day return period with PA. Do I keep my current gun or return it and try another? Advice is appreciated.

Well it seems like to me you recognize the gun is not perfect, but youre alright with its faults. What you may not realize is there isn't really a perfect gun out there, they all have there faults. Some faults are relatively simple others are game breakers. If you can figure out how to Fix that leak or get it repaired under warranty then keep it. If you find it's not really meeting your NEEDs then return it.

Mine went back due to the leaking. I did manage to get the trigger better but it still would have needed to be replaced for me to like it, same goes for the barrel/accuracy. In the end I decided that I would rather have a gun that I liked than one I just accept and the fortitude unfortunately only ticked half the boxes for me. That said, if it hadn't been leaking I probably would've kept it. I may get another one after a couple iterations, maybe crosman will do a FT version like with the maurader and toss in a LW barrel and a decent trigger. That'd be dope.

Luckily it wasn't the typical $2000.00 PCP you read about.

I would return it and wait until they get the bugs sorted out.

Lucky you can get all of your money back since it is defective.

The only thing I can think of is replacing the hammer spring

with a lighter one to lessen the cocking effort but it will probably

decrease the power and the gun is already anemic as it is now

unless yours is a 177.

The Maximus I have leaked air from the start. Not knowing where it was leaking from, I put a small balloon over the fill connection and let it sit for a while. It was less than 6 hours and the balloon was fully inflated! So I removed the foster fitting and applied some Permatex high pressure sealant and snugged up the fitting. It hasn't leaked since. In fact, it held 2,000 psi for the last four months!!

All issues repairable if you like the gun for what it is at its price point....JMO. Although it should arrive without leaks..

For reduced cocking effort, you could work plenty of magic, my marauder stock made 40 fpe on 8.5 lbs of spring, where as now it makes 60 fpe on just 7.7 lbs..stock custom valve.

.

To each their own at the end of the day!

IMHO leaking is not acceptable and if it falls on its face past 10 yards that is not acceptable....you did not say what it does at longer distances....how is it shooting past that.

Mine went back for all the reasons you say, the leaking was a bit worse on mine, and it could not hit water if I tossed it off a boat. These guns have some real issues, I hoped it would be a maximus, I have had fantastic luck with mine and really enjoy that little thing....a great gun, but the fortitude...it really is not ready for market....I will wait for a year or so.

I personally am waiting, Having said before I love...as in LOVE my little maximus....thing is the euro version and so thrifty on air, and hits good inside of 50, and with replacing the horrid trigger that would make your finger sore after 10 minutes it is a true joy to shoot all day. I need to take a rest before I have to refill that little thing. It is also quiet a great winter basement gun.

The fortitude was 180 from that for me. I am always worried when they come in with 0 pressure, I have only had that happen twice...and oddly enough the other was on my Mrod. The cocking was just horrid....it has to get better. All the videos I have seen the cocking was not as bad as my gun was...think of ted's old video he pulled, but with the fortitude instead of the gauntlet....it was a no go.

I will try one more time in the spring, I figure by then it should have calmed down and I will order from PA again, they are great at taking stuff back if it does not work out....a real super company to work with.
