MODIFICATIONS:

Well, owning a FX Streamline (.22), Wildcat MKII (.25), and Crown (.25) I have gained experience in tuning and modifying the FX brand of guns. I like customizing them and I also know what velocities/energies I like to shoot JSB’s at (mid-900’s fps). So, easy for me to make modifications because I’ve done it before and know ultimately what I want to do. Basically, I know what makes these guns tick (always start with a good patch-worm barrel clean). So the first two days of owning this Dream-Pup was “go-time” for my mods and tuning! Yayyy! My labor of love, I customize and mod/tune every airgun I own! First and simplest was carbon fiber wrap the barrel shroud and air cylinder. Purely cosmetic, just my style. Black on black... Sexy isn't it? Lol! Next, sling studs / sling, and pic-rail a must for my PCP’s. Third, a 300 bar Wika gauge from HumaAir for the air cylinder. See, in the past I have replaced all FX gauges with these on my other FX guns, luckily I had one extra / spare gauge just looking for a home. So Dream-Pup, you got it! They’re just of better quality and more precise than the OEM gauges.

TUNING / PERFORMANCE:

Now, I’ll get to the good stuff that matters. How does this “Puppy” shoot? Well, of course you shoot a new gun over the chronograph before you start changing everything. Out of the box with a factory 120 bar AMP regulator setting, on transfer port setting .25/.30, and hammer spring tensions control on MAX she shot JSB 18.13gr at 895 to 900 fps. For 32 fpe, exactly as advertised which is awesome. From experience (FX Streamline) I know that JSB 18.13’s fly nice and flat from a zero of 20 yards out to 45 yards at 920 to 930 fps accurately. So that’s what I wanted the Dream-Pup to do. To make a days worth of tuning short, I simply raised the AMP regulator pressure (counter clockwise) to 130 bar, and made the necessary hammer spring tensioner adjustments to efficiently and harmonically reach a consistent 930 fps for 34 fpe... Beautiful!!

ACCURACY:

Pictures speak for themselves. Shots @ 25 yards and 50 yards, all outer bullseye groups are 5 shot groups and both center bullseyes are 10 shot groups. On the 25 yard target, the Pup was shooting 1/2 inch to the left, so before shooting the 50 yard groups I gave the Hawke scope 3 clicks to the right. All shots taken off trigger sticks.

CONCLUSION:

All the hype, I’m talking about “all-of-the-good-hype” around this gun is absolutely deserving! It’s not BS.. This is the smoothest little gun I’ve ever shot. Trigger is set perfectly light, and is really simple but brilliant the way they did the linkage. The DonnyFL FX edition is boss! Everything on the Streamline I loved is enhanced in a good way on this airgun’s action. It’s like a Crown, Streamline, and Wildcat made a baby. The rearward cocking lever took one day to get used to and it’s not a problem... Really! In fact, it is so smooth it’s actually a pleasure cocking the gun and that is not an exaggeration. It’s not meant for speed silhouette, but critters will be killed. Swish FX, nothing but net! Can’t wait for the “DREAM-PUP BOTTLE KIT”!!

She looks great Joe. I knew it was yours just by the carbon wrap. I'm waiting for the bottle version too. My buddy has the Dreamline Lite and with the 600mm barrel, it does look kinda funny being so long. I love bullpups and my Wildcat MK2 in .22 is shooting great. I have the pellet liner and slug liner for it now. I've tuned my M-rod and P-rod but now for the first time, I have run out of hammer spring tension. On the rods you could never turn the hammer spring all the way in without losing velocity but I have on the Wildcat with 24grain Varmit Knockers. It's shooting them a 895FPS and I want a little more.

PS: I install an Huma regulator and set it to 170bar.

Very nice review. I assume you have the valve set for the .22 caliber. What is your shot count with that increase in fpe. I am debating what FX rifle to get next. I like the flexibility of the Dreamline series. If I got one I would the get tactical version in .22 caliber. Though I would like to shoot slugs I would probably have to stick to the lighter ones, like the 19 or 21 grain Nielsens to get decent velocity. I would still think it would do well out to 100 yards. Otherwise if I wanted a definite long range shooter then I would go with the Impact MKII. Decisions decisions. Great Review again. Bill

Thanks everyone! In the spirit of being informative. No good review would leave out the negatives. So, actually there were two minor and repairable things on my Dream-Pup that weren’t favorable.

NEGATIVES:

#1. Out-of-the-box, the DonnyFL moderator was tightened on the shroud extremely too tight . I could not remove it by hand. Had to use pliers with cardboard padding to carefully break the two apart. The last thing you want to do on a brand spankin’ new gun is scratch it all up! Fixed but not kool!

#2. When unscrewing the shroud from the actual blued smooth twist x barrel sleeve the barrel sleeve would start to unscrew from the stainless steel joint. Which is not really supposed to happen. So, I put one drop of blue lock-tyte on the threads of the stainless steel barrel joint threads and carefully tightened the blued barrel sleeve back up securely. Problem solved, but didn’t care for that. If that remained loose the rigidity of the barrel would have been compromised. Causing inaccuracy. This was not a issue on my FX Crown or Wildcat MKII. Thinking twice, this issue may have been caused when almost straining to remove that DonnyFL initially. Who knows, fixed it I’m happy.

That’s awesome n2stuff! My Streamline (140 bar) and Wildcat MKII (130 bar) both have Huma regs and it keeps the shot strings nice and tight, but it’s looking like this AMP regulator is a excellent performer. So far, they’ll be no Huma / FX regulator swap outs for this little puppy!

Transfer port set at .25/.30 and hammer spring adjuster set on MAX. From a 230 bar fill down to 130 bar regulator pressure she gets 50 shots. 5 shots every 10 bar so that equals 2 bar per shot. Hadn’t counted shot count on the .177/.22 trans. port setting, but it chronographs at 916 fps set there, also on MAX hammer spring. Guessing it would get 55 to 60 shots that way.

On my Crown I used a mini torch to heat up the end of the shroud to get the cap off. Same with the sleeve/barrel housing.....that sucker was on there good!!

I was like hell naw man, who put this chit on here like this!? Lol. Funny but not funny.. Now I smear a little silicone grease on all my 1/2 inch UNF threads for the moderators. Helps a lot on removal.
