NP03 Update

After a few weeks of tweaking, I now am getting 30 shots in the 810 fps range with JSB 15.89 with 20 fps spread. I cut the long factory hammer spring a bit but with stock porting it maxed out at 730 fps.

Accuracy was intermittently very good and the barrel needed frequent cleaning so I shot some slugs coated with JB bore paste.

My NP03 is now much more consistent. The below 5 shot groups at 25 yards demonstrate the progression of accuracy after fire lapping. The first four groups are shot through a dirty barrel before fire lapping. The second six groups are after. The last few groups opened up a bit due to wind picking up but are still fairly tight.

Definitely improved.
Fire lapping ? I just learned something I didn’t know. !

What optic are you running?

My 22 caliber pro 500(in a jumbo stock) is doing 880+/- fps with hades 15.89 for right about 100 shots with an ES of less than 10 fps on average. I used a 16" np03 barrel and put a baffle from a benjamin trail NP on it. Fit perfectly into the jumbo shroud and I got some shroud bushings off of ebay to balance the harmonics and also added chambers to the shroud. It's quiet and accurate and efficient. Stock ports, just a heavier and shorter hammer spring and a stock mega rifle hammer. It also fills to 250 bar.

My NP03 is using a 20 year old Bushnell Elite 5-15x40 I took off an old FX. Haha.

I read about fire lapping on this board. Figured this barrel needed some kind of refinement when I realized it got dirty so quickly.

The mega and np03 use the same hammer, the jumbo and pro 500 use the heavier and longer hammer with a smaller diameter spring. The mega amd np03 have different springs too. To get them to work well, you have to cut the hammer down about 1/2-3/4" and bore them out to 3/8" or so. This will allow better options for springs and let's the hammer come further back to compress the spring tighter. Helps lessen the hammer bounce if you use a stiff and shorter spring.

Thanks! That helps a lot. I was thinking about modifying the hammer.

I used an angle grinder to cut mine down and just went slow to not over heat it. I've read they're hardened and a PITA to drill but mine was super easy with just a titanium bit.

The mega hammer is my personal choice in a gun to get the most power and efficiency out of them. They have enough room to stuff a pretty heavy spring in them. My 16" barreled 25 cal jumbo with .172" ports all the way through will do 925 fps with jsb 25.39s for 50 shots with ES of around 15 fps. It's a hammer now, and would be in the 55-60 fpe range with the rifle length barrel but it's too long with the moderator that way for my taste.

Love me some Krals!

Man your Krals really are something.

The couple of Krals that I have are mostly stock except hammer spring. They do suffer from hammer bounce so when I have time, I may try to address that problem. Thus why I wanted to lighten the hammer.

NP03 and Puncher (it has a shorter barrel and tube, not the mega version).

Both are using a shorter, stiffer spring. The NP03 hammer spring tension is at zero preload. My Puncher has some preload; it is very consistent and shooting at ~870 fps for about 40 shots but has lots of hammer bounce. I basically adjusted both for flatter shot strings rather than power.

I have those 2 as well !
So if I adjust the hammer spring minimally ( cut it ) it will deliver that kinda shot string ?? Impressive

Kuro, both yours are .22 right ?

Aren’t a lot of Krals models being sold as Benjamin’s ?

I can’t help but compare certain models that line right up as sister rifles

Like a WS6 - SS ( I hope I didn’t date myself )

The Puncher's stock spring provided good shot strings at around 870 fps but mine was bent in the middle and I believe it made for occasional weird velocities.

I changed it to a 10.4 lb/in, 0.48" OD, 2.5" length spring. Then I cut a couple of coils off and flattened the ends. This eliminated the fliers. Also, the shorter but stiffer spring allowed me to decrease the hammer spring preload which decreased hammer bounce and slightly increased efficiency.

I used the same modified spring in my NP03 because the stock NP03 spring had way too much preload. Cutting coils off the stock spring greatly improved consistency but I could not get the velocity that I was looking for. I could get about 50 shots at 720 fps with the cut stock spring.

I'm also interested in the new Nish rifle from Kral. They have some in stock at CSS for $315 USD and I'm almost compelled to buy one and mod it.

They're actually slightly different than other Kral models, but yes, they are made by the same manufacturer and come with a 5 year warranty vs. 1 year. My Benjamin Cayden .22 is my most accurate shooter at 50 yds or less. I've got a Kral Bighorn .25 from Troy Hammer coming later this week.

Outstanding. ! Awesome news about Troy
I’m glad he is setting up rifles again. !!

I bought a Karl Bighorn 25 from Troy a year ago. Troy set it up and tested my cast bullets in it.

I cast the mpmolds .252 @ 44.2 grains. I get in the 920-930 fps range, if I remove the valve return spring it jumps to 965 fps.

Tried some AVS 48 trainers that I sized to .251, they are doing 830-840 fps.

I ported the dechocked and jug choke polished the barrel also under the shroud, I drilled three rows of 3 holes drilled to .1 and debuted, if it changed the velocity I have not noticed. I have a 500cc Talon tunes bottle, but thinking of going to a 700 cc bottle. I ordered the Bulldog/Pitbull power spring to try at a slightly highe r fill to see if it opens the valve and at what fps/fps.

Great guns, I also have a Kratos 25 I ported to .20 and replaced the 3K tank with the Bbighorn 3650 psi tank, it will break 1050 fps with Kings, but I have it set at 950 fps. I also have a $1000.00 p-rod that has just about everything modded on it, it pales in value to a npo3.
