I recently got back into air rifles after about 15 years. I wanted to shoot but circumstances made it difficult.
One of the new PCPs I got is the Kral Puncher S .22. It has a 230 cc tank and 18" barrel. I bought this model mostly for backyard work but also to use in more open areas. When I received it, I immediately thought that it was built quite beefy but yes, the fit and finish is not what I am used to with European brands.
The fill probe does destroy o-rings so I replaced it with an aftermarket part. I also bought CARM mags because the stock ones seemed unreliable in the long run.
The trigger is apparently a new type with a removeable shoe. It was heavy at first but broke in nicely. The sear adjustment grub screw was loose and required some work. I am now very satisfied with it.
The hammer spring seemed to be of poor quality so I replaced it. I shortened the new spring and flattened the ends which improved consistency.
It now does about 40 shots at 860 fps with 16 grain JSBs. I chronoed 30 shots with a 12 fps spread but stopped there because up to #40 there is no POI shift.
I have only used the Kral at the 25 yard back yard range but I do have a place to shoot at much longer distances. At 25 yards and rested, it normally shoots 5 shot groups less than 1/4" ctc and ~1/16" ctc at best.
CPs work very well under 750 fps. I can take about 50 shots without POI shift at that power level. JSB 16s are best at full power but are average at lower power. I tried some slugs but pellets have been bit more consistent. I may try more slugs later but I am working with another rifle at the moment.
I know that there is more I can do to improve this rifle but I am satisfied for now. My feeling is that I am very impressed with the performance for the price.
I wanted to thank the members of this board because the information I got about Kral in general and the know-how to do the work on the gun mostly came from here.
The attached picture is one of the better 25 yard groups that I shot.
