Lane regulator or Huma regulator?

sorry Mrod .25, you did say what you were using it for.
I have been working on a Falcon FN19 this weekend and thought this might shed some light regarding a regulator (I have 4 HUMAs working well). Without a regulator my best shot string is 561-571 fps for 16 shots; a 10 fps extreme spread, but............ only 16 shots. Trying to get the maximum consistent shots forced me to drop the speed (under 880 which was where I was hoping to set it). If I fillled the reservoir above 2700 psi (3000 psi) the valve became overloaded and the first 4-5 shots were around 530's. The last few shots after 561 were in the low 550's. Using a regulator, I might be able to gain a few more shots at both ends of the string. I could probably fill to 3200 psi (before overloading the regulator) and pick up a few more shots as the regulator would prevent the valve from being overloaded. I would like to get around 30-32 shots. Even if I got 24 shots, thats 3 mags for this rifle with a small air cylinder.I was able to achieve 32 shots (four mags) with my .25 Marauder which I'm sure you know gets 16 shots from the factory. Addertooth and Dairyboy were able to get 40. Unfortunately adding a regulator to a Falcon would require drilling a hole which I would prefer to send out!. I hope this is helpful and not too basic.
HUMA is gaining a Lion's share of the market and has very good support.
Best of Luck with your project,

Doc

Thanks, and yes with the rifle I plan to use one on, I may just sell. I love the rifle and I love my other budget rifle but at the end of the day its still a budget rifle, an thats not a bad thing!!! After doing some research the last few weeks into regs, I realized my best possible outcome is to just use the rifle for its intended use and price point, then buy another higher end one. When I get an FX, Taipan, Kaliburgun, Air Arms, I will have the expectations in which they strive to provide but for now, a 500$ rifle will be just that ! lol. I don't doubt I could benefit from a regulator but after much thought I will be perfecting my shot string for maximum usable shots at 15ftlbs or more and calling it great!

I would not discount the Marauder. My .22 shoots lights out and I took 22nd place in the 25 meter at Extreme Bench rest 2 years ago out of 75 competitors (my first ever competition). I beat, or my rifle beat many high end rifles. A better shooter may have placed higher. My .25 shoots very well also. It shoots very different than the .22 so It's not an easy switch and takes me a little longer to zero in. The .25 shoots better than me. I do not have any problems with P-dogs though and have hit one at 90 yards and another at 160 yards (lucky shot). Although the resale is poor when reselling a low end modified rifle , I was much more willing to tinker on a $400-500 rifle than a $2000 rifle. I gained a wealth of knowledge about the workings of a PCP and to my surprise, they shoot as well as any of the high end rifles. I can only speak in regards to the Marauder. I believe B Walton is a big proponent for modifying the Hatsan. I would NEVER sell my .22. Thinking about converting my .25 to a bullpup. There are also after market stocks to get it to look as good as it shoots. I actually made my own. After all the mods that I did, my only complaint is they are heavy for stalk hunting. This is why I'm considering a bullpup stock.

If you take the time to adjust the spread prior to adding a regulator you will find where the rifle shoots best. If and when you do add a regulator. it will only improve the rifle. For the M-rod the regulator is not a difficult mod, so for around $100, it's not a huge upgrade.

Having .22 rifles that shoot at 14, 28, and 32 FPE, I personally would bring the power up. At 15 FPE you will be a victim to the wind. On a calm day my .22 Falcon Carbine (14 FPE) can shoot very tight but I will have to adjust for windage with a mild breeze out to 50 yards. My .22 Marauder is set at 28 FPE shooting 15.89 JSBs and accommodates wind much better out to 75 yards. I believe you can still get a decent shot count shooting 15.89 JSBs at 880 fps. If you can shoot the 18s at this speed even better, however, it will be at a reduce shot count. I have watched several reviews and video on the Kral, and believe, that just like the Marauder, with a few upgrades, they can hang with the best. I watched a video of a guy shooting iguanas with a .177 Kral at 75 yards
