Laser sight, red dot, or small scope

For a crosman 10" barreled 22 pistol?

I'm thinking of using it for close range pesting/plinking and wanted to see what options would be best. Not a fan per se of red dots or pistol scopes, but if I have to go that route so be it. I'm leaning more to the true functionality of using a laser.

Will it really work for minute of squirrel head at 20 yards or is that just a pipe dream? It'll be used more at 10-15 yards.

How does a laser sight work thru the trajectory arc vs irons or a scope? Or is it zero it and it's good til the pellet starts to drop and then just hold over kind of like irons? I will have a set of iron sights on it for co-witness as well.

I'd go irons or red dot. I've done the laser thing and beyond 20yds it's a pain trying to find the light unless it's a gloomy day. I'm a 29year old with 20/20 vision that can spot iguanas way far out for context here.

^I agree. I have used all three and a good red dot would be best for what you want to do. Lasers are pretty useless past 7-10 yards (their intended range). Scopes are also a pain for varminting as you would have to rest the pistol to be practical.

So what's a good slim red dot that won't look like a giant box on top of the pistol?

Yes, a "good quality" laser will keep a smaller dot on a target at 15 or 20 yards. The only thing, a "good quality" laser isn't really cheap. Give "Optics Planet" a try. Type in "laser sight" into the search line.

I bought a Holosun laser, "just to see". Right now it's on a rifle, but I've been thinking of putting it on one of my pistols, just haven't done it yet.
Also, they aren't like a "good quality, red/green dot sight (2 minute dot). They will take 50,000 hours to wear down. A laser...the batteries won't live that long.

You want a small dot sight ["red dot"] — mmmh, even if the dot sight itself is small, they often have a pretty large dot (4 MOA seems typical).

I went a little different route:
𖦏 A dot sight
𖦏 with an elevation turret
𖦏 with a 1 MOA dot.

The Leupold Freedom RDS BDC.
A red dot is an amazingly fast sight.... 😯

@JungleShooter a lot of red dots have 4MOA dots, but not all of them. The more expensive ones, what a surprise, have smaller dots. I have a Holosun HE507C green dot with a 2 MOA dot (and a 32 MOA circle) that I originally got for my PP700SA. It's now mounted on my GK1. This model is available as a red dot as well. It's low profile and light weight. Also has solar cell charging, if that's worth anything to you. If there's light, the sight uses solar to power the light, extending the battery.

It uses an RMR style mount, but it's easy to find low profile adapters to a GK1 or other airguns.

I've had mine a year now and think it's worth having. A bit pricey at about $320 USD, but 2 MOA, small and light.

Thanks, Bruce, for the data. 👍🏼

However, 2 MOA is twice the size of 1 MOA — and I felt it was a bit large for the longer 40y shots....

Yes, the price is also a little higher than the 150$ I paid for the Leupold Freedom RDS (used).

Still good to know.

I'm sure there's an even more expensive red dot out there at 1 MOA. Just have to be willing to pay even more. I was simply responding to your comment on finding a 4 MOA sight, by responding with a reasonable 2 MOA unit. I think I've seen 1 MOA devices in the past for military applications, so they must be out there.

Also didn't realize that you were using it at 40 yards, my bad.

Hey, your info is helpful for a lot of shooters 👍🏼👍🏼
My 40 yards are a bit out of the ordinary.
I imagine dot sights would be great on squirrles.... — and they don't usually offer you 40y shots — too much branches in the way....
