Leak detection products

There are options to buy but I've never needed more than a soap solution. It works very well.

I know it works, just trying to avoid the potential for water to create rust.

Understandable. Note that in stoti's recent posting about an FX leak that both Ernest and Edosan suggested that dunking entire gun in water was not a problem. Not something I would prefer to do myself but apparently they think it is OK.

Michael, I used detecta-leak which is water based but I also tried an alcohol based product that I got at Home Depot. It’s used for finding leaks in gas lines. I’ll get the name of it for you when I get home. As far as dunking my gun...couldn’t do it. I’m sending my gun in, if Ernest wants to do it and I don’t see it, fine. I’m too big a chicken!

Nation,

My favorite, being that is on the outside of the gun, is WD-40 on a small chip brush. I wipe it around fittings and joints, and at the end of the day, I'll usually find the leak. Then, you can wipe down the entire outside of the gun with it. It'll protect it from moisture. The WD stands for water displacement......couldn't be bad for it...

Here's the one I was talking about in the response above Michael. Comes with a big swab to apply. Glycol Alcohol is the main ingredient.

Knowing that this is little pricey, we use with great success, a Hydrogen sniffer. We rent nitrogen cylinders with a content no more than 5% Hydrogen mix. The sniffer is quite adept at finding the most minute leaks without any liquids, oil or water base. The mixture has no explosive properties and is safe to use.

If you wish I can easily get the brand name of the sniffer that we use.
