Learned something new about the Taipan Veteran cocking lever

Been shooting Taipans for about three years now and just discovered something new.

The anti-double loading feature is something that is well known and I use it frequently.

A cocked gun can be decocked by pulling the lever back and holding it while squeezing the trigger and letting the lever close slowly.

That's how I've been using it but today I noticed something else.

If you slowly pull the lever, the mag will rotate halfway to the next pellet... 'click'.

Pull the lever just a little farther and the 2nd 'click' lines it up for the next pellet.

At this point you can push the lever closed and the pellet will be loaded without cocking the hammer.

No need to cock then decock using the trigger.

Can't believe I'm just now figuring this out 😛

Is it just me or did everyone else already know this?

Having been INSIDE the Anti-Double feed mechanics .... WHOA !!!!

Good as it works, it is a bunch of SUPER SMALL parts and a single point of failure and mag won't rotate at all !!

Just be careful ... FYI

What is there to be careful of?

Not forcing anything.

All I'm doing is letting the mag cycle without pulling the hammer back.

I have not had that part of my rifle apart, but I've seen the diagram and a video of a mag advance repair. As much as I like the Veteran, if there is a design weakness, the magazine system is it. I love the way it works, an absolute perfect anti-double load system. But unlike the rest of the rifle, small parts and fragile. Without having it apart to examine it thoroughly, I don't know if the operation you describe is risking anything or not, and for the same reason, I'm personally a bit hesitant to do it.
